I'm going to chime in with everyone else and say that I also have never seen anything quite like your e-ring and I think it's set in a really lovely way.

This forum can be funny because we all start wanting what we don't have or get inspired by other things! I have an emerald cut e-ring and I felt pressured in the search process and now sort of regret it myself. I brought it up a few times and DF was horrified that I was less than 100% thrilled. I just tell myself there's always more to come down the line. He has no idea ;)

Your 5-stone ring sounds phenom! At .4 carats a stone I'm sure it looks awesome on and can stand alone! That's definitely on my list :)

I know it's New York and people have ridiculous rings here but would you rather have several things? I think you're pretty blinged out with your nice new halo-ed studs, your 5-diamond band and the pendant. Even if they don't hold sentimental value to you, weigh what you enjoy - the quantity of all these amazing new pieces or size of one ring.

There's really no right answer to that. I think all your new stuff sounds great to me! I guess sit on this decision for a few days (or weeks depending on your jeweler's policy!)

^Thanks Lu...my jewler has a lifetime upgrade policy....so tell me when your ready to visit him! My mind is not 100% made up, thats why I asked the opinions. I will ultimatly do what I want, of course...but I like the opinions of others since my friends...(in real life) are not into jewlery the same way I am...so they are NO help in my decision making process. It really has little to do with the sentimental value and more to do with the amount of smaller items vs. one HUGE item.....This forum doesn't help though, you are right!!!!! The grass is always greener and it is one hell of an enabler!

I can't wait for my 5-stone ring! It will happen one day... :) It's sort of far down on my list of priorities... Did your jeweler make the jackets for your studs?

When you have a chance post a picture of your 5-stone ring so we can all drool. That size sounds amazing! I really think that's a size you don't upgrade - keep it :P

Keep what you got, everything is gorgeous, I really mean it you got some very pretty stuff, don't put everything in 1 item! There is plenty of time for an upgraded e ring later, when you think it through better. Taste changes with time

I'm going to go against the majority and say if you don't want the other stuff get rid of it. I have some heirloom jewelry from a family member I wasn't close with and I have been seriously considering either having it reset or finding a way to unload it. What is the point of hiding all those pretty stones in a jewelry box when I won't wear it?

If you do think you'll wear your mother's pieces ever, though, I'd keep them.

OK...I've been thinking about your dilema.
Keep the halo studs...every girl needs a lovely pair of studs, frames the face.
Trade in everything else and get a quality stone. Pick out a nice setting, remember it's easier to upgrade a setting down the road, a good quality diamond is the key...put your money into that.
Now is the time to buy in this economy, more "wheeling and dealing". Take your time and do your homework...you'll find the perfect stone!
Just my 2 cents...but I've gone through this several times! LOL!

Personally, I would keep everything you already have, it's so beautiful! Also, your current engagement ring is absolutely stunning! I don't think I"ve ever really seen one quite like it!

I vote to keep everything and perhaps upgrade later on down the line if it's feasible.

i agree with nyc_candy.
btw nyc, i always enjoy reading your posts.

OMG I know how you feel! I hate that feeling that you bought something but could put the $$ towards something else...

I LOVE the studs you got AND the five diamond anniversary band! (I almost got one myself... I had it bought, paid for and sized at Tiffany's... but then ...LOL... used the money to upgrade my E-ring stone!) Now that I'm 100% happy with my e-ring I feel like I'm free to spend any money I should come upon on something totally different like a RHR or LOVE bracelet. :)

BUT if I were you: I'd try not to think of this as an all-or-nothing once-in-a-lifetime scenario. Surely there will be time in the near future to upgrade your ring or buy other jewelry? I kind of feel like because you were gifted these things you should buy yourself something pretty (like you did!) rather than use them to upgrade your ring but that's just me. That way they are sort of separate... it's like you can think of that anniversary band as something your grandmother left to you (in a roundabout way) as well as the earrings... and then you and DH can trade up your e-ring one day if you want?

By the way your ring is really stunning! It's very unique!!

Personally I'm a big old romantic when it comes to passing along heirlooms - I haven't really received any to date except some from my DH's mother to give to my DD when she's older... but even if I didn't love it I'd probably keep it intact - but my sister would sell it at the first pawn shop and laugh her way to Birks! haha. So just listen to your gut.

I really think your original e-ring is quite lovely and the design is so unique and original. I love how it looks like a dewy lily from the side and from the top, the flower-diamond is just blooming!

I have to agree. I much prefer the original engagement ring and would hate to see it changed. It's gorgeous as-is!

Thanks all for the comments....No news. I was speaking to DF about it and he said we could go in on valentines and see what stones and settings we both like. So...thats kind of where I am with it. I'll post the news then with pics if we upgrade.

I don't think of it as a once in a lifetime, however, with a house, 2 cars, 2 kids...2 dogs and a cat...I tend to get lost in the schuffle and my wants are usually put on the backburner so we can pay for life and private school etc etc etc....so, I kind of felt like this is just for me and if I want a huge e-ring, I should probably go for it now before I have TWO kids in that private school, summer camp....my wedding, and anything else that comes up that are big ticket items.

I guess I'll see if anything calls to me then and go from there.....

I picked out my e-ring set and would give anything to switch the style, but hubby has grown attached to it and wont let me. I understand the desire to have a different ring. I wouldn't hesitate to trade the 5 stone ring and earrings in for an upgrade. I mean you can't even see the earrings on you ;-). I would not however get rid of the pendant that was in your Mom's ring. Not for anything in the world. Whether or not she was attached to it or wore it much. That is a family heirloom (is it an antique cut diamond?)! Just my opinion though.
