Ok, so here is the background:

I initially chose my own e-ring and it was a rushed decision so I immediatly began second guessing my choice....

For my birthday last month I tried upgrading it, but when DF saw what I chose, he flipped and made me feel very guilty about thinking about changing it...(even though he didn't choose the ring to begin with anyway....)

So, for my bday my mother gave me a lot of scrap gold belonging to my grandmother and her own engagment ring which was passed down to her from my fathers grandmother. (My fathers mother gave it to my mother....my father didn't....and she has rarely worn it. My father is now deceased and she is remarried and hasn't worn it in years, thus she gave it to me for my 30th...)

She told me I could do what I wished with everything...(sell everything, keep it, wear it, reset it....etc...)

The price of gold being so high I took 90% of my grandmothers jewlery to my jewler and bought a 2tcw. 5 stone anniversary ring for my birthday and a pair of 3ct. halo'ed earrings.....I also had my mothers ering diamond reset into a 4 prong pendant. That diamond is 1ct.

SOOOOO...I get home today from picking up my newly reset necklace and I aske DF what he thinks! He says the diamond gets lost as a necklace and why don't I take EVERYTHING (minus the earrings which I am hell bent on keeping)....back to the jewler and get a 3-4 tcw e-ring.

Now, I had put aside the hopes of upgrading my ering for a while....and now he has put that back on the table!!!! I don't know what to do. I need some advice! Below is the pic of my e-ring...(the 5 stone ring and the pendant are plain. Like the pictures in the links below. I dont have those pics on my computer and my camera is DEAD...) Any advice would be appreciated!

Would you all keep the new items and upgrade the ering later down the line...or would you rather have an amazing ering and thats it? Trading my items in would give me about 15,000 more to put on an e-ring....

I dont think those links are working..here is the pics from bluenile but it exactly what I got. A few more pics of the ering as well, however the light is not making it shine and it is VERY sparkly in every light! It is micro-pave around the entire setting so there is no metal showing at all....It is designed as a blooming flower with the diamond in the cent and it is set VERY high. It is very beautiful in person, however at a tcw of 2....I kinds wanted to go larger which is really what has me questioning everything.....

When you are older, I think you will regret if you take your Mother's diamond and apply the funds from it to a bigger piece. I would leave what you did w/ your Mother's piece alone. I like what you did with it.

^thanks for responding. Thats what I'm concerened about, however she is not too sentimental about it, my father wasn't either as he didn't even give her an ering...(they where 23...it was the 70s...they didn't care about such things :)...and I have the platinum bezel setting still which I will hold onto even if the diamond space is empty now.

QueenCoco, what upgrade would you get? I really think your original e-ring is quite lovely and the design is so unique and original. I love how it looks like a dewy lily from the side and from the top, the flower-diamond is just blooming!

Kohl, you always put things so nicely. ....you're too sweet!

I don't know!!!! I was thinking a 3ct rb on a pave band or a 3ct emerald in some kind of designed band.....(I saw a few nice designs at my jewlers I liked for an emerald...which was the stone I origanlly wanted)....

I just don't know at this point! I'm getting tired of obsessing over diamonds! LOL!!!!

I like what you have done with your Mom's diamond and I really love your 5 stone ring. if it were me I'd keep all that and stay with my current (AMAZING) e-ring, but it sounds as if you have your heart set on a 3-4 ct diamond. You should do what makes you happy. Let us know what you have decided and we want pics if you do decide to upgrade!:woohoo:

Its funny, my heart wasn't set on too much until I got my ering...then started looking at everyone elses! I've been with my DF for 12 years, have 2 kids...and the whole process got lost along the way so I always told him I don't care if my ring is a ring pop...I want to be engaged and get married at some point....UNTIL he told me to pick out a ring I wanted while we where in the jewlery store....the store was closing and everything wasn't avaialble for me to see so I just chose the biggest...LOL....now, I'm obsessing!

Queen Coco, your current engagement ring is beautiful. There is NO way I would trade in everything for ONE ring. I love the history my pieces have.....each one has a story.

I think you have a really unique ring. 3/4 carat solitaires are common......yours isn't.

Something to ponder.

Personally, I would keep everything you already have, it's so beautiful! Also, your current engagement ring is absolutely stunning! I don't think I"ve ever really seen one quite like it!

I vote to keep everything and perhaps upgrade later on down the line if it's feasible.

I would never sell or trade family e-ring or any heirloom piece. For anything. If you can trade your current ring witout regrettting it that's what I'd do.

If you're still obsessing, then it's best to wear what you have for a few weeks more and see how you feel at the end of it. I think if you already know what you want, you just know it...

It would be a shame to switch everything out when it's all so new! :)

Im going to be the lone dissenter and say that you should be truly happy with your ering, and if you're not, then why not get it upgraded? Your current ering is nice, but its unfortunate that you felt rushed buying it- it took me a few weeks to pick mine out, including two trips to Tiffanys to try stuff on. If your DF doesnt mind, and an upgrade is what you want, i say go for it :) theres nothing like looking down at your ering and being perfectly happy with it, and thats what all girls deserve :)

With this comment, it seems that you've already made up your mind. You don't require our approval. There's obviously NO sentimental value behind any of these pieces.

Do what you have to and get what you want.

QueenCoco, I LOVE your ring, and as many other ladies on this forum have exclaimed, they LOVE and would be so extremely happy if they had your unique and lovely ring!

But I agree with Contessa - these are YOUR items and you should do what you may. If you feel that the items would be better used towards an upgrade, then go for it! Especially if your taste is more simple and the current ring you have now is not your taste and was a total impulse buy (though I am not sure if that is the case here)! But I personally think a solitaire on a pave band or a large emerald, though very beautiful, are a little boring compared to what you have now. I've looked at a lot of rings (I'm not claiming to be a ring expert here) and I've seen tons of solitaires on pave bands, but I have never seen a ring like yours before!

Anyway, just take your time deciding. Since your wonderful DH is supporting you in this, all you have to do is ask your heart what you REALLY want and then just go for it!! Don't let what other people have here on this forum influence you or make you think what you may want or have. :D
