Anyone who's seen the post-it note episode of
Sex & the City knows the worst kind of breakup is the kind that comes without any spoken words. Well, apparently Russell Brand wasn't a fan of the show because he brought one-upped the post-it note breakup with his own more modern version.
In a revealing interview with
Vogue, Katy Perry discusses her split with Brand and how it all went down. "Let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011,” she says, surprisingly blasé about the whole thing.
As to what contributed the split, Perry touches on that as well: “At first when I met him he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they’re like, I can’t handle the equal-ness,” she reflects. “He didn’t like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting.”
It also didn't help that she became the subject of Brand's act, adding, "He started making jokes about me and he didn’t know I was in the audience, because I had come to surprise him at one of his shows.”
But Perry doesn't place all the blame on Brand: "I do admit that I was on the road a lot. Although I invited him time and time again, and I tried to come home as much as I possibly could."
And Perry's honesty doesn't stop with Brand once the conversation shifts toward her on-again-off-again relationship with John Mayer (currently in the "off" position). I was madly in love with [Mayer]. I still am madly in love with him," says Perry. "All I can say about that relationship is that he’s got a beautiful mind — beautiful mind, tortured soul. I do have to figure out why I am attracted to these broken birds."
As for what the future holds, Perry is hopeful, saying, "I have to be happy being alone, and I am happy… I believe that I will be loved again, in the right way. I know I’m worth it.”
