Who stands to walk away with the most money in the Katy Perry-Russell Brand divorce? I assume they had a prenup?

You would assume wrong.

There was no prenup in this celebrity insta-marriage, at least, if you believe what Russell Brand has said. (Go ahead and ask me if I believe anything a celebrity says.)

As for who might get real poor real fast in the next few weeks...

Here's what I can tell you. According to our own crack news team and Forbes magazine, Katy Perry made roughly $45 million during the 14-month marriage.

"The vast majority of her money is coming from touring," the magazine's Dorothy Pomerantz told our news team. "She's also really smart, she makes a ton of money from her endorsements and she's even launched a perfume line [called Purr] and that's all a great source of money too, but most of her money comes from being on tour."

Brand, meanwhile, made much less.

"If you look in the last year," Pomerantz says, "his biggest film was Arthur, he's got books and other performances.

"I would give a generous estimate that he made between $6 million to $8 million the past year, which is a drop in the bucket."

So what does that all add up to in divorce dollars? The two married in a lavish ceremony in India, but they reportedly had a $6.5 million mansion here in Los Angeles.

Ergo, prominent divorce attorney Laura Zwicker of Greenberg Glusker tells me, "I imagine even if they got married in India, they have a California marriage license."

And that means that California laws probably apply to that marriage. And what does that mean? Means that Brand is entitled to half of what Perry made from work done while married: perhaps half of $45 million.

Perry wouldn't be alone if she were stripped of that much of her earnings. Mel Gibson reportedly lost half of his $850 million fortune in his recent divorce from longtime wife Robyn.

All that said, don't be shocked if Perry and Brand keep the details of their divorce a secret. After all, if there's one way to keep divorcees from yapping, it's to pay each other off—maybe to the tune of $22.5 million.

Even though reports claim Katy Perry wanted Russell Brand to file for divorce for religious reasons, a source tells HollywoodLife.com that Katy didn’t want the divorce!

Katy Perry can’t believe that her marriage to Russell Brand is over! A source close to the singer tells HollywoodLife.com that Katy, 27, is “absolutely devastated” that her marriage didn’t work out and she still loves Russell.

“Katy still can’t believe that it’s over,” a source tells us. “She knew things were bad but she figured they’d work through it. Katy has been going through a bunch of emotions and she’s really leaning on her friends right now. She’s not herself.”

Russell, 36, filed for divorce on Dec. 30 after HollywoodLife.com told you that things between the couple were rocky. Katy was vacationing in Hawaii and Russell in his native England when the news of the split broke.

Other reports claim things between Katy and Russell have been rocky for months and that she wanted him to file for divorce as not to upset her very religious parents.

“Katy never thought in a million years that she would get divorced, she really planned to spend her life with Russell,” our source continues. “She is grieving her marriage and is at a point in her life where she doesn’t know what’s next.”

Katy and Russell met in 2008 and were married in October 2010 in a gorgeous ceremony in India.

LMAO! I agree. When i hear that i usually roll my eyes and then tune out anything that comes after especially from celebs at the level of Katy with the amount of PR that goes into constructing her image.

I completely agree. I don't think he filed bc he wanted to. I think he really loved her and took the marriage serious (well at least for Russell Brand lol). I have a feeling that he won't be able to keep his mouth shut for long, so I am sure at least his side of things will come out.

I don't why people always assume it's the man with the issues, it takes 2...

Some of the rumors are he left her because she didn't want to start a family and that she partied too much. They say since he's been clean he doesn't want to be apart of that lifestyle.
