Thank God.

Russell Brand has filed for divorce from Katy Perry ... TMZ has learned.

In the docs, filed in L.A., Brand cites "irreconcilable differences." The two were married Oct. 23, 2010 in India. They have no kids.

Sources had told TMZ the couple was having problems, evidenced by the fact that they spent Christmas apart and neither was wearing a wedding ring.

Although it's not 100%, based on what we now know it appears Brand may have blindsided Perry by filing the divorce petition.

Russell appeared on "Ellen" just this month, slamming divorce rumors -- claiming, "I'm really happily married ... I’m married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge. I’m still alive."

I'm not even going to google it even though you all have me curious now...I never trust internet pictures anyway.

I really liked them together. I thought they were a cute and quirky couple. Sort of like they were these two oddballs who found each other. Cheesy I know, but I'm sad they are getting divorced. I hope it works out for them both in the end though.

I'm sad about it. Being a fan both as a couple and individually. But not to the point of some katycats who are going mental over it atm.

But I'm not surprised. I found both their Ellen interviews telling, and yes body language in photos too.

I wanted them to make it though :(

They were a qwirky yet interesting couple. Similar to how I felt about Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy. Russell is a very smart and intellectual guy, the polar opposite to the usually dimwitted or perhaps strange characters he plays. I liked them together.

Two strong showbiz personas in a relationship is hard. Gets harder when both are actively working.

Apparently small flaccid ones really grow, unlike large flaccid ones that don't change that much...
Not true... Large flaccid ones can grow a lot too. It just depends on the guy.

I'm not surprised by their split. There seemed to be some tension between them of late. Plus they didn't seem to be spending much time together either. He was a player before he met Katy, became smitten by her and they had a whirl wind romance and got engaged. Then came wedding planning. Then they got married and then the dust settled. At this point they probably realised that they weren't right for each other. Sometimes that's what happens when you wed when you are infatuated with your partner and haven't been with them for long. Some people get lucky, others not so much.
