I love kate spade -- and coach. I would also love to get great deals on LV, Chanel, etc....but at this point, kate and coach are so much more affordable, so I can get some cute new bags w/o feeling angry w/ myself for spending a ton:-)

I like the styles but my friends who have had KS are not that happy with quality...nylon bags look frayed and tired after just a few months! Not worth it at any price. I do check them out when I shop for bags but I don't have any and would spend my $$ elsewhere.

I love kate spade. It's my firest designer brand and my favorite bag is from kate spade. I also love Coach and LV. I have lots of nylon and non nylon bags from kate spade. The puffy nylon ones are quite durable and easy to clean. I didn't use the regular nylon ones much but when I did, people loved how vibrant the color is (ezpecially the red!).

i like kate spade alot. i always carry a kate spade messenger bag to work. i love how it looks and it is really really sturdy (i have my laptop in it etc).
i agree with everyone else; it is "designer", but not premium designer like LV, chloe, tod's...

I think that Kate Spade had a great thing going on, and then it seemed like noone was minding the store. You can't just succeed by not evolving your design statement. True, they opened a zillion different categories along the way, bedding, homewears, stationery, etc. etc. But, it seems to me, that you have to "push" your customers along on the journey that you are taking....they stayed at the fair too long...

great concept, great company, not enough oomph to keep their customers begging for more.

I think that Kate Spade is "designer"....I love them, and have amassed a small collection over the years. I feel like I can always count on her to create something that is unique, but retro feeling too. All my bags have held up very well.

I have quite a few very expensive designer bags (hello, serious Marc Jacobs addiction), but my very first designer bags were Kate Spade. I still carry one of them: a "Small Brice" in a purple tweed fabric with brown leather trim that is just darling.

The other two haven't been carried in a long while (also fabric bags). I should really see if my local consignment store can sell them.

I've never bought one of her leather bags, but the designs are always cute and often have an adorable vintage "feel" to them.

Here's a picture of the tweed bag [photo from ihatecounterfeitbags.info, a great resource for folks trying to authenticate KS bags]:

Agree!

I consider Kate Spade and Coach as great "starter" bags. Had a lot of both brands in my 20s and early 30s, and then moved on to the "premium" designers.

I am seeing less and less Kate Spade in department stores than I used to, so I'm wondering if the brand is beginning to fade...

I like the simplicity of Kate Spade bags. I had a lovely leather tote/Sam before in black with gorgeous contrast stitching. I wore it to death back in the day, and I don't regret buying it, but I'm not as fond of the stiff boxy shape anymore. I have seen some other lovely styles recently and I may buy more KS in the future. What I love about KS is their fantastic customer service. I saw a gorgeous Kate Spade dog carrier in an old magazine once, but when I tried to find it in stores, I was told it had been discontinued. So, I contacted the kate Spade store(in NY, I think ? It was sooo long ago) and they made one to order for me in a beautiful Cranberry color. I love that they did that as not many designers would do that for you(unless you are some mega super star celebrity or something). The carrier was gorgeous and I got more compliments on that bag than any other handbag I've ever worn in my life. lol.

I think her leather bags are nice and she is coming out with cuter designs in different fabrics. But ultimately, I think they aren't as high in demand because they are easier to obtain than say, a Balenciaga.
That being said, i have a nylon messenger bag that I LOVE!
