I feel the same. Vintage H bags in their heritage leathers are stunning to me for that reason. I’ve gotten very into the quality of the raw materials at this point in my handbag journey. There‘s really nothing like the smell and the feel of beautiful, full-grain leather, is there?
Oh the smell… dont get me started… its such a sensual thing to handle fine quality leather

The leather knowledge here on the forum is just incredible.. I can never keep up:blush: do you know if JD heritage leather can handle light rain like Hermes Barenia?
Yes, you can wipe down with a soft cloth & let it dry naturally. As with any full grain non-covered leather, avoid thermal shock so dont dry it by keeping nearing a heating source or hair dryer. Even light scratches or marks can be rubbed with a soft cloth & they will eventually gently blend into the patina that the leather develops. My Hermès barenia bags are marked & have turned dark, its such gorgeous. Same goes for JD heritage leather. What is more problematic is alcohol (hand sanitizer or perfume), I learned the hard way to be careful with hand sanitizer

My Diane L20 in noir with palladium jewelry
I purchased online with the help of a wonderful SA. Will take some better quality photos soon, just had to share! Heritage calf leather is to die for:drool:

It’s gorgeous. I’m so undecided on color and size. I keep going back and forth between coquelicot, noir, and chataignier.

Extremely impressed with the craftsmanship. The Diane clasp is surprisingly easy to use.. kinda satisfying to unlock/lock it lol. I think the next few bags I purchase will be from JD:love: between the product quality and customer service they’re wonderful.

I know people find the Diane style to be formal looking but the black/PHW gives me vampire-gothic vibes:biggrin: My style is casual and so far the bag is working well for me.

My Diane L20 noir in different lighting. Did I mention how much I love this leather!?:hbeat:

Now that I see more views it seems like an evolution of a mashup of the Gaby and Danse. The Gaby’s refinement and structure, the Danse’s more casual handle setup and bottom.

I’m not sure how I feel about the non-detachable strap. I never carried my Danse without it, but that was before I built up a strap collection. It would be nice to have the option, but I’m also guessing that the way he designed it makes the bag hang in a certain way without the variability of hardware.

I will definitely try this one on next time.
The bag draping better crossbody (sans strap hardware) makes good sense. You have a good design eye.

Your bag is stunning. This is the combo (leather color/hardware) I want. Thank you for sharing your photos!

I asked the store manager when I was in Paris and she said it's not barenia, and didn't come from Tanneries Haas. She said it came from a small tannery. There are several tanneries in Alsace, not just Haas. Gustave, Degermann, Sovos, to name a few. Perhaps Alsace is a region for tanneries.

also it would be so embarrassing for JD to source their leather from Haas. they already manufactured their "heritage know-how" re: handbags (there was none before Ramesh was onboarded) and the only truthful thing about Joseph Duclos is that he owned tanneries and was an expert in tanning that he was given recognition by Louis XV.
yes, Alsace is one of the leather centres in France, but Haas to my knowledge is one of the very rare tanneries who can make Novonappa leather Which Hermes calls Barenia. Haas does belong to the Chanel group (btw, its interesting that Chanel doesnt use novonappa in their bags).
Anyway if Hermes can source their barenia from Haas, its not embarrassing for JD to do the same & give it a name of their own. After all, JD tanneries used to exist way back in the 18th century, they don’t manufacture leather any more. As far as I know only 2 luxe companies use novonappa today : Hermes & JDuclos. Back when Ramesh was designing Moynat he used it there but since he left I havent seen any novonappa at Moynat.
Its v interesting that JD store manager told you they dont use Haas, I‘m planning a Paris trip soon with my eye on a St Clair so will definitely ask some qs esp because i love novonappa so much.

Beautiful bag! Congratulations! Quick question, is it heavy?

maybe the store manager wasn't aware that barenia = novonappa. in that case, it's amazing that haas can provide bright novonappa colors to JD like red, blue, purple, and green. I remember many years ago it was already so rare at Hermès to see ebene, indigo, or black barenia. now they don't even use other colors anymore. it's only fauve barenia that is used by H, and only sparingly.

happy for JD. I hope they get enough quality skins from haas to continue their business.

I've noticed that the Saint-Clair camel bag is out of stock again. good for them. looks like people really like that bag.

I’ve been told a few bags have to be ordered, and have waitlists. It’s the price I’m willing to pay for a handmade quality product.

oh nice. did they tell you which ones? I know the Saint-Clair becomes available eventually. it was out of stock before xmas and came back again around Jan or Feb.
I asked about an ‘out of stock’ tote and was told it’s coming back soon.
The JD rep mentioned a few bags sold quickly during their special event, and will be restocked — a couple fulfilling waitlist slots first. I didn’t think to ask which bags because she answered my question about the tote.
I could be wrong, but I sensed the Saint-Clair bags were the best sellers at the event. The price point is excellent.
