I always try to find something I can't buy back home when I travel. My most recent trip was to Arizona where I found these gorgeous opal beads and peacock pendant, made by local artisans.

Jewelry is so easy to bring home and using it after effortless. Family laughed after HI that it is all I bought, but it gets more use than my friend's t-shirt

Cameo on left was from first Italy trip when stopped at Pompeii. One on right is not travel related but they share a drawer. It is from the late 1920s or early 30s

i like this. do you have some jewelry made same shape as some attractions ?

Not sure if this is off-topic here, but I thought I'd ask. I'm heading to Florence this May and would like to get a piece of fine jewelry as a souvenir. Any suggestions? What are some jewelry items that Florence is known for? Seems like several of you ladies have been there before. Thanks! :-)

Florence is known for its 18kt gold. Pieces at the main piazzas and Ponte Vecchio tend to be over priced as they "discount" for certain tour groups. My star came from Oro Due on a side street. It was reasonable and family owned. Small selection though.

Gold there can have a florentine or matte finish that you won't find many places.

Also it is known for leather goods

I love to buy cheap & cheerful souvenir jewelry when I travel. In Athens recently I went to a flea market bead shop & got all sorts of bead bracelets threaded up for the equivalent of a few dollars each...

great idea. and i think you also can collect charms for the features building of that countries

The most famous building of Florence is Florence Cathedral.
I occasionally find a representation of Florence Pendants and Charms(my favorite). In my imagination it should be more 3D or some kinds of elegant. But They are already excellent now :smile1:

I am so curious: what is a Florentine finish? I'm going to google it but I thought I'd ask you too! I love the idea of finding something there that I can't get elsewhere. And I love yellow gold anyway--it's all I wear. (I think silver/white gold/platinum are stunning but they just don't work on my skin tone.)

A Florentine finish is very matte with a slight texture to it. The star I posted has it. I wear mostly white metals, but they were not readily available so I went with yellow. I had been told rose gold was big in Italy, but I either never saw it or it was not very rosy (high carat rose just looks like muted yellow).

Are The "Florentine finish" like some Texture on those Building of Pics.So I think It will become more attractive and memorable for the travellers in Florentine especially for me.:D.I think I will tell the texture to my family one day on the future where it was Carved.

Thank you so much for explaining! The Florentine finish is just lovely--it has that "spun gold" look. I think I've seen a similar texture on some Marco Bicego pieces, which makes sense because he is an Italian designer. I will definitely buy something like that on my trip. Thanks so much for the great tip!!!! :-)
