Interesting, this article doesn’t say it was a family member, makes it sound like a stranger that he was trying to help.

Law enforcement said on Tuesday at a press conference he was helping a family member, so dunno if he'll eventually issue a statement. He did share a photo and a few words on social media on Tuesday. Glad he's awake and hopefully healing. Very scary, especially with the size of his snow plow, yikes!

That's heavy equipment, not just a residential snowblower. Per CNN, it weighs 7 tons. He's lucky to be alive. I've heard of people being killed by their car running over them in their driveway.

Exactly what I said in an earlier post! It's snow grooming equipment, not the typical residential Honda snowblower. He's very, very lucky to be alive.

Can anyone that has the funds just purchase this heavy duty machinery and operate it? I would assume you'd need some training, the article I read said it started to roll away and he tried to stop it and was run over. Horrible.
Terrible accidents happen even with people who operate heavy equipment for a living. This is not something for the average homeowner, but I don't think there's anything to stop someone from buying it.

Agreed, but you need a permit to operate a forklift..so I wasn't sure about this level of equipment in the states.
I know these things vary from state to state, but having lived in Nevada I'm going to guess that one isn't required as long as you're not using it commercially. Also, a lot of states do not require licenses for operating farm equipment, which are frequently involved in accidents. But you piqued my curiosity:

Re the forklift, an employee operating one was recently killed on the job near where I live, moving a pallet of lumber that fell on him.

I read in one article (can't find it now of course) that he trained with the village Fire Dept to use these heavy duty plows.
