Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez

Presenting a prenup close to the wedding increases the leverage of agreement of the party that holds fewer cards. Bezos has nothing to lose if Lauren refuses or delays to sign. Her lawyers could negotiate for more assets, or different timelines in the event of divorce, but why would Bezos' lawyers advise him to budge? So what if all the wedding arrangements are made and hotels are booked up? Bezos is in a position where he doesn't have to care. All the costs of the wedding are still pocket change to him.

I always thought so close to the wedding was not allowed because it was some kind of pressure situation.

It’s not great to have the idea of a prenup raised for the first time right before the wedding as between the couple. But to have the discussions about the prenup early and hammer out the details over time and then have it signed close to is ideal.

Pressure? Over a prenup? Please, they are two lovebirds. Nothing says romance like legally deciding who keeps the billions if forever doesn't work out.
Love comes a poor second for rich people, it seems, behind money, assets and status. That's a shame.

For self-respect, I'd have thought that Ms Sanchez won't need to negotiate too much as I'm sure she is wealthy herself. Anything she receives in the event of a divorce is likely enough to exceed the economies of many countries. Crazy amounts of money which far surpass the amount any one person requires.

Lauren already divorced from one uber wealthy guy. We don't know what she got, but as a result her knives have been sharpened. She's walking a fine line between thinking that Jeff should fork over more vs the fact that he could just say "no" and walk.
