I saw a news clip the other day, he was signing autographs for his film and was asked about his love for his new pet pig and if he would stop eating bacon and he said no, of course not.

It takes a certain kind of insensitivity to separate his love of a pet pig and still eat its cousins, don't you think?

It wouldn't for me. I would think about it and feel badly but bacon is delicious!

The self-described animal lover couldn’t help but take the pig home with him, telling fans he’s narrowed possible names down to two options: Lau Lau and Manapua — both popular Hawaiian dishes often containing pork.

It's a wild pig he adopted. I wonder how big the piggy will get!

Not necessarily...is it insensitive for a farmer who has cattle to eat a hamburger? Or somebody who keeps a free range chicken/turkey/other poultry flock in their backyard to then eat the pullets that are born from those birds and raised for food? Part of life as an omnivore is that you can have emotional attachments to animals and still have an understanding of their place in the food chain, just as we have one too. They are not exclusive from each other.

Fair enough.

I guess as good as bacon tastes, I just don't want to eat a pig, they're supposed to be such smart animals, so I guess my opinion of Momoa is biased and judge-y.

I am appalled by this. Especially in this area. He should know better, he has been to the Big Island to protest and should be protesting this. Times are already hard and this is a huge impact on the incomes of these people. Kaimu is a small community and these markets sales are important for the families they support, and for the people who cannot travel distances to shop. They need to be compensated, there are market fees to consider on top of lost sales. This is unbelievable, it seems out of character for him to not put a stop to this.

he "requested" it but it was the market that gave him the ok. they are the one's that should be paying them - he did not just go in an take over the place. they could have told him no so they (the market) should be paying those vendors.
i wasn't blaming him, i know it sounded like that....its just that he has stood up for Hawaiian issues before and not sure why this slipped in; the market owners definitely need to make this right.

i wasn't calling you out at all! just saying that the people should be asking the market owners why they approved this - other than the obvious being that they got something out of the deal.

Kind of a bad time to displace vendors. But was there adequate advance notice? Or was this just sort of dropped on them last minute?

Would have been nice to budget in some compensation for missing out on selling opportunities if they didn’t have enough notice.
