Jaeger-Le Coultre - which model: pros and cons

Yay!! I went to the JLC boutique this evening (see how smitten I am :p), and the SA told me that it is indeed slated to increase in April.

they have the Reverso Duetto Classique in steel, but only willing to give me 20% discount whereby other watch shop told me that they will give me 25% discount. I mentioned this to the SA, she told me that the directo boutique will give 2 years warranty whilst I am not able to enjoy the same from authorised retailer.

Just wanted to find out :
1) whether is this true that the authorised retailer don't give 2 years warranty whilst the boutique does?
2) does a new JLC needs any repair for the first 2 years? if so, it is kind of worrisome as this is going to be my first mechanical watch and I am totally noob about them.

TIA for all the advice.

Just confirmed with my SA (who's from one of the largest watch distributors locally) that the 2 years warranty is regardless if you purchased from an authorised distributor or the boutique direct.

And unless there's a technical default or an unfortunate accident, a new Jaeger should not require any repair for the first 2 years or even for a long while. Wear/use it with care and it should be fine.

All the best in obtaining your favourite time piece. You'd love it like I do mine! :smile1:

Does anyone know which country is this brand cheapest in, after discount? I've been wanting one for a long time but kept getting sidetracked. :p

I think Hong Kong is probably the best bet if you have a good contact. Otherwise, Singapore is the next best.

You just have to bite the bullet. The want list is never ending. :graucho:

thank you hellokatiegirl...

I truly believe I will enjoy this watch for years to come.... more questions tho... what I have now is a croc leather strap and I am thinking of changing it to a stainless steel bracelet...

What do you ladies think? It is not going to be a cheap exercise but I am quite sure I will soil the pristine white croc leather in no time :p

Any experience, advice?

Thank you in advace.

Too late, I got the watch with leather.... just gone mad when I saw the baby and that's the only one left (I checked the whole shopping stripe) and they only have the leather model.

Whoa-- I have never seen this watch! I am just as crazy about watches as I am about handbags, so I'd be happy with any of the 3. aaa_1188 please post pictures when you get it!!

I would get the watch with bracelet and then get additional leather strap to change.

I would have advised the above actually as the bracelet is expensive to buy on its own compared to the leather/satin straps.

In any case, I think the stainless steel model is highly in demand. (I had to wait 2 months to get mine). I was told for accessories (additional strap/deployment buckle/steel bracelet etc) there are no discounts given. So it is advisable to get it direct from the Jaeger boutique as they carry the stock for them (the authorised dealers have to get through the boutique anyway).

I was told the SS bracelet alone is more than US$1.2k (close to S$2k). Why don't you get another leather strap for now, perhaps a darker one?

sbelle I actually got it already, I will post picture when I have time to get around it..... was thinking of shooting it with my SO Knot :yahoo:

ms piggy, great advice, I never thought of getting a darker leather strap.... still very smitten with the white strap :p do you think I should get a black or a red strap..... hmmm.....

You are right about the bracelet; it is around SGD2k; the reason I got a 27% discount was that the SA could not get me the one with bracelet and he has promised that should I want a bracelet, he will give me some discount on the bracelet too, I was doing a quick mental calculation (which I am no good at) I think at the end of the day, if I were to get the bracelet separately, it would be still cheaper than the boutique 20% discount. That's why I bought it immediately.

Hmmm... now to decide on a bracelet or another leather; if it is a leather, what color should I choose... decisions decisions decisions......:thinkin::thinkin:

will the bracelet price increase in time to come? any idea?

ms piggy :flowers::hugs: for all the sound advice.

nvie thanks for the advice too

aaa_1188 - I would wait for the bracelet and wear the white leather strap before you get another colour. You won't wear out the white one in a few months. Enjoy it first!

Who knows after a while you might eye another watch! :graucho:
