"It has to be designer"

Ever since I got into designer brands, I don't even bother taking a second look on non designer handbags... It has to be a designer for me... Good for me, bad for my pocket!

For me I look at quality and uniqueness before the label. I don't like cheap stuff that only lasts a season or two. That probably why in bags why most of my bags are from different designers.

As for clothing, I tend to me a little more loyal. This is only because if the brand tends to have some items (i.e., pants) that always fit like a glove, then I am more likely to find good items if I start searching for a new clothing with certian brands. If the brand doesn't have something that works, I move on.

On things I don't wear much and really trendy items I get the cheapest things that flatter me. It doesn't matter what the price is, but if it doesn't look good on me, I don't buy it.

Yeah, I'm like you. I choose my designer bags though....only brands like Balenciaga, Chloe, Chanel, BV, LV and gucci. I can't help it, I love them. Its a psychological thing too. I can't seem to force myself to buy even Dooney and Burke or Coach items..sorry...I'm such a bag snob.

But...anything goes for clothes and shoes etc...

There are some D&B and Coach bags that cost more than some LV bags and bags by other designers. In many cases it's an issue of canvas vs. leather.

I totally know what you mean about bags too- I've recently gotten into Balenciaga and Prada, and I have a whole slew of "other" bags that are slowly making their out of my closet the ebay way...:)

And I also fit the consensus here that my clothes don't have to be expensive. I love the thrill of the bargain- I can spend hours sifting through the racks at TJ Maxx, mostly looking for that designer item they don't realize the value of (i.e. my recent purchase of a MaxMara top for $49.99 and Bluemarine sunglasses for $12.99 - $12.99!!).

I think the reason I'm so picky about bags now is that for one, I'm lazy when it comes to changing them, and I've been known to carry the same bag for a month straight. That's socially acceptable to do with a bag, not if you're a celebrity, but it's fine for us mere mortals (I think!:). On the other hand, it would be ridiculous to wear the same outfit for a week! A designer bag makes any outfit look polished, so it makes sense to be picky about something so versatile.

True, but with Coach and especially Dooney there's nowhere near the sense of luxury you get with LV. You'll find Coach and Dooney on sale, at outlets, and at places like TJ Maxx and Marshalls- you won't find LV. Louis Vuitton rightly costs more because they invest more in maintaining their brand's image through selective store locations, premier advertising, a RTW collection, etc. On the other hand I wouldn't be suprised to find Dooney at JC Penney within a few years.

For some reason I can't think of LV as a "luxury" brand, probably because there are so many fakes. Everywhere I go someone and their mama has a fake LV. I think LV should invest some of that maintenance money they use to keep their brand "selective" and do more about the counterfeiting of their bags. As it stands, I couldn't spend a lot for an LV bag just to have everyone think it's fake, anyway. They do make fake D&B bags, but due to the fact that the authentic ones are rather inexpensive, most people assume a D&B is real. LOL It's funny, but I know people who consider a fake LV to be just as much Louis Vuitton as a real one, and they're like, "You can get LV at a swap meet, the flea market, etc." And they're serious when they say that; to them if it has the LV logo all over it it's authentic by default and design. So much for "exclusivity," even though they're not referring to actual authentic bags, only the knock-off ones. However, I'm still at the point where I'd rather carry a $300 bag that people think is real as opposed to a bag two or three times more expensive that everyone's gonna think is fake. I'm primarily talking about the LV mono line, but the counterfeiters are good these days. They're replicating most of the LV lines with great detail, and that bothers me.

I think we're in the same boat. Altho i havent been thinking/saying 'it has to be designer', i still haven't bought a non-designer bag since 1.5years ago when i got married. Since then ive been given chloe, bally, lancel, LV, balenciaga & been eyeing my next designer brand bag.

Oh ive tried buying for a nondesigner just so i wont abuse a designer bag for everyday use, like going into Zara or Mango, but i cant seem to persuade myself when ive touch them.

Maybe i just got spoiled since all of these were gifts from hubby & not my own money. If its my own money, then i might buy lower brand bags.

Still a brand snob. ;)

But if u can afford it, go for it!
