Is upgrading your e-ring common?

When I first got engaged, the ring was set in yellow gold, I changed the setting to white gold after the wedding and then changed it 2 more times until my hubby finally upgraded to a larger stone with a simpler setting....
I also change my actual wedding bands, I actually have a collection of wedding bands that I mix and match with the engagement ring.
Here's a pic of my favorite combo though....

I plan on ugrading my e-ring. Acutally, I never really have liked my e-ring at all from the beginning. I don't like the cut, it's marquis and the color is really too yellow. My husband knew nothing about rings when he bought it. I haven't even worn in it years. I don't really see it as a symbol of our love, etc., I see it just as a ring which isn't nearly as precious as the memories we have.

I could never upgrade mine. DH and I got engaged when we were Freshmen in college and so poor. :sweatdrop: My e ring is a 1/4 carat but it is beautiful. I know other people would consider it small but to me after 15 years it is still the most precious thing I own. DH did buy me a gorgeous anniversary band for our 10th anniversary. But I am too sentimental to ever buy a different engagement ring. :shame:

My Guy is taking me to get my Ering upgraded tommrow. We will be married in June he wanted to get me a bigger one before the wedding because my guy could not afford it at frist but now he can. How does the whole upgrading thing work

Upgrading is pretty common where I live.

I intend to upgrade to a larger stone and hubby knows it. :D Don't get me wrong, I love my rings and get compliments on them all the time, but diamond shrinkage has set in. ;)

I'm also not the sentimental type and I know my husband isn't offended by the idea.

Hubby gave me a new ring for our 2nd anniversary, I still have the old one sitting in its box. I dont think there is anything wrong with upgrading, however my grandma disagrees she thinks you should only wear the ring you were married with. This is impossible because both hubby and I lost our original wedding bands :shame:

I'm exactly afraid of this! I am, unfortunately, talented at losing things(like my watch this week) so I would get my e-ring at least insured.

This is all very personal, so it is tough to say. From my experience with all my friends and family, it is not common to upgrade.

I would not upgrade because I feel this ring was purchased at a symbolic point in our lives when we were coming together as one. It is what he chose for me and was given with all the love in his heart. It just is a wonderful feeling to look at my ring and to remember where we were in the beginning and where life has taken us through the years.

We were so young when we were married....at least it seems that way now that we just celebrated our 27th anniversary.

I was so proud of my .25c diamond engagement ring that my husband picked out for me, and to this day I still think it is a beautiful ring. But as time goes on and we get older and have a much more comfortable income I am wanting to get a nice, large diamond in a lovely setting.

Part of me thinks I'm being selfish and ungrateful for my original ring and part of me says its okay b/c our lifestyle has changed and my tastes have gotten grander.
