Thank you ALL

I guess I didn't spent enough with the SA
Although she is always very nice to me :)

thanks for all the responds!

The SA isn't acting nice, though, even if she was nice when she said this. Take your business elsewhere or speak to the manager.

NOT GIVING LEGAL ADVICE, but I wonder if this isn't illegal. It's one thing to be an "unsaid" rule, but what would people say if Annie went to Best Buy and they offered her a TV but said she had to buy $250 in DVDs first? Hermes is a store, first and foremost, and this reminds me of bait and switch tactics.

I know Rose shocking doesn't come in swift. that bag was special ordered by other customer who didn't want it anymore.

she said to me that"there is one condition if you want this bag which is you need to spent min couple thoudsands on clothes or accs or scarf"

she is a really nice SA if I ask manager.....doesn't it hurt our relationship??

I would be tempted to check this with the manager, it does seem abit strange to me but then I haven't had the years of experience with H that some of our other lovely members have

That's being a bit blunt about it. I did have a similar experience purchasing my Birkin (my first H bag) in January where I was still new to the store (and H). The SA told me that since I was a new customer, that I would have to purchase something (between $1000-2000) along with the Birkin for them to ship it to me. I didn't mind since I needed a new wallet anyways, have since been offered other bags, and my SA and I have a great relationship. But I wouldn't do it again. I understand where the SA is coming from in that they want to make sure that Bs go to customers who will continue to purchase other H products, but I don't like the "testing" of potential customers.

I would add that in this economy, I'm not sure how strong of a position your SA is in to demand that you spend anything extra. If I were you, I would not spend >$2000 just to get the bag. In this economy, another one that you want will come around soon enough.

HHmmm.. My $0.02 is that these are your options:

1. Talk to the manager if you object to what she said AND still want to purchase the bag without buying $2K of anything you don't intend to buy knowing that this *may* hurt any future interactions with this SA/SM/and Store.

2. Buy something worth $2K in order to buy the Birkin from this SA if you really think that this Birkin is worth $2K extra because of its rarity in Color/Leather Combo.

3. Do not buy anything extra and tell this SA that you want to buy the Birkin but you do not feel that you should have to buy other things you do not intend to buy and risk not being able to buy this Birkin.

4. Or you can always choose not to buy the Birkin at all and politely pass on this offer.

I think normally SAs do prefer to offer Birkins to customers who *have already* spent a certain amount with them. Not saying this is right but it is how some SAs operate. What she said is blunt and to the point maybe to determine if you will become one of her "regular" customers.

What you decide to do is dependant upon how much you really want this bag (buying an additional $2K to get it) or how willing you are to risk hurting your relationship with the SA and/or Store to buy this bag without buying anything extra.

It also helps if you already plan to buy something around $2K (trust me $2K is a small amount at Hermes) such as a wallet, an exotic belt, jewelry, 2-3 GM Cashmere Shawls. I know it goes against the grain to feel like you "have to" versus just wanting to spend an additional $2K at Hermes but it's really up to how important buying this specific Birkin is to you. That's something only you can answer. Good Luck!!

well, rose shocking in a non-exotic color is super rare so shes right about the bag being rare. i think that might be why shes asking you to spend an extra 2k on something else. though, that would make the 35cm birkin about 12,000 from the store and thats about the same price as what you can get from a reseller.

hearing these stories of SAs asking for customers to spend thousands on other items to get the item dangled in front of them makes me really sad. it's pathetic and reflects poorly on the store. i can't imagine a store manager condoning those kind of tactics. if one told me they did, my opinion of Hermes would be severely damaged.

I think, after reading this, many would jump at the opportunity to own this bag... pay double even! I have probably spent thousands on Hermes since placing my HAC order - although not all from the same shop... perhaps I should have.

My SA did tell me They would like their customers to purchase other things besides handbags. They want customers wearing or using other H items beside "birkin" of "kelly".

That's seriously poor taste...you need to speak to the manager and take your business elsewhere. Unless you REALLY love this bag or if you were planning on buying something ANYWAY. You shouldn't be forced or persuaded to buy something in addition...it's not like that Birkin is cheap. LOL This SA seriously gives Hermes a bad reputation...ugh and I STILL want another Hermes bag!!! :p

I would not say so.... I think they they desperately need to move their inventory besides "birkin" or "kelly" that sell like hot breads....;)

i think you are right on the money.

if they want more people to buy the ready to wear, they might try exposing a few more of their customers to their catwalk shows where it's displayed....or even in-store trunk shows. much more enticing when you see it on a person than hanging on the rack!
