Gold hardware tarnish?
Hi guys, from your expeirence, does the Gold hardware tarnish or fade, etc.. with time on a Birkin??? I was wondering since I am about to purchase one promptly.. THNKSS!

Tarnish on PHW
Hello Ladies, I didn't know where to post this so decided to create a thread. Would really appreciate your help and advice on how to go about the tarnish on my B35 PHW. Have you seen this before and is it normal? Please refer to image below:

The 4 dots on GHW being rusty?
I was taking pictures of my bags today and I just noticed that on 2 of my bags with GHW, the 4 dots on the plates have already turned rusty. Another bag has also started to show some brown rust too but it’s not very noticeable. Have anyone seen this and can I take this to the spa for repair? The...

In an effort to hopefully allay some fear, I will tell you that oxidation of Hermès hardware is actually not uncommon. The hardware is gold plated brass, which already makes it susceptible to oxidation. On top of this, the fastening of the hardware to the bag involves a step called “pearling” which often involves the consequent removal of some of this gold plating. When this gold plating is removed, the brass substrate is exposed, and unfortunately brass is very susceptible to oxidation, hence the blackish-brown spots on your hardware.
Also, please do not use apple cider vinegar on your hardware (or soap, for that matter). Vinegar is made of acetic acid and water— like 90%+ water to be exact, so you really do not want that anywhere near your hardware even if it does temporarily remove some of the oxidation. Hand soap often has water too. Water = humidity = oxidation.
As others have said, polishing cloths work wonders. Would also highly recommend dehumidifiers for your closet!

There are posts about it… the palladium layer peels and exposes a golden/rose golden hue metal beneath… not common but possible.
Apologies if the tone of my message was confusing, but I did not intend to insinuate that palladium peeling was something impossible. I was just asking for a picture, which of course you are not obliged to provide!
The palladium is plated over brass, as I’m sure you know. This is why it has a “golden hue” underneath.
Yes should not be stored where you can get the humidity from the bathroom and also that you have had the plastic removed that tarnishes the harware if its on to long
How often should we air the bags and usually need to air for how long?
I actually still have such problems (the black nail part) for my bags eventho i wear it out once every 1 or 2 weeks & i have dehumudifier near the bags (which i turn on 3 x per day for 2 hrs each). I guess the oxidation just happens naturally…

The HWs on my Jumping Boots that are over 5 years old have turned almost like pewter color. I actually don’t mind it and it looks cool IMO.

All my H ghw bags are tarnished turning black on pearling parts which I dont dare to touch with anything except microfiber cloth which never work at all 😆 I just learned to let it be until I find best answer from this forum 😅
