Is this bag Chanel "inspired"?

The only similarities between the Chanel bag and that RM bag are the chain and flap style. That's it. Flaps with a chain are a very popular styles and can be found with all the brands.
I personally love flap style bags, have many Chanel flaps and just got a Miss Dior flap which is veeeeeeery similar to Chanel.

Chanel flaps have always had a major influence on the bag industry because of the iconic position. So Chanel influenced the development of that flap bag with a chain segment. It's not the matter of inspiration anymore, it's an established style of bags already.

Good point!

So funny you mention MK. My SA at Hermes just pointed this out to me last week. Then yesterday I received an MK catalog in the mail, and there are new bags that in my opinion cross the "inspired by" line. They look just like Valentino, of course not the quality, but its pretty pathetic.

I tend to agree. It's a shame really. He's so successful that he can do it on his own. I wish he would get his inspiration from something other than someone else's work.

It may sound like I'm taking it too seriously, lol, and I probably am. For me personally, with my personality, it just doesn't make sense for me to carry or wear Kors anymore. And for that matter, I'm making a conscience decision to stay away from RM too for the same reason.

Don't forget about the leather woven into the chain, the color, and the quilting too. :-) but I get your point too!

The leather woven chains are quite popular too. Remember that the initial Chanel bag had only chain, no leather (see the reissue) and almost every brand right now has a bag with a chain.

The wine/cherry color is definitely not own by Chanel, lol :D This is a seasonal color actually for Chanel and many brands use it.

I mean yes, it's a flap bag with quilting and a chain but it doesn't look like Chanel, it looks like RM. A donkey doesn't look like a camel even though they're similar color, have four legs and both kind of funny.

Good topic. Funny that you brought this up. I have a GST and then my sister bought me this Chanel inspired bag for my birthday last year (by Kate Spade) looks alot like the GST minus the buckle in front.

Actually bags designed by Coco Chanel did have the leather through the chain. Some of her bags were on exhibit a few years ago, and she had one for day (leather with the leather though the chain) and one for evening (jersey with the metal chain). So yeah, Chanel was the first with leather through the chain.

I never said... Nevermind, you're totally allowed to think they look way different from each other :-) lol. That's why I asked in the first place, to get opinions, so thanks for that :-P

Stunning designs that have stood the test of time. I love Chanel

There are some bags similar in style in every brand.

I personally love flaps. Here's the comparison of my Miss Dior and Jumbo. They're the same size, shape. Similar quilting, chain handlers but Dior is a short chain (Dior offers a long chain too).

Back. See that both have the back pocket. I love it and use it for my business cards.

Inside. Both bags have almost the same pockets. Only jumbo has a lipstick pocket in the middle and Miss Dior has it in the corner. And the jumbo is double flap.

Dior vs Chanel, I know I know... It has been discussed a million times. From the bags, to the watches, to the perfumes, to the ads. People always say Dior copies Chanel. While this is old news it still does seem to keep coming up frequently.

I don't know what to think of it all. But for me, Chanel is my preference.

I really don't think Dior copies Chanel. Quilted bags are not only Chanel, and flaps either.

I don't choose between these brands but I do have many Chanel bags, 12-15 maybe.
But only because I have this weird connection to flap style bags, especially I love reissues. My another favorite flap bag is Fendi Mamma.
I got a little tired of that poor color selection Chanel has been offering lately and decided to get a bright flap. Glad Dior offered this bag in bright colors.
