I am currently looking at a Mulberry Roxanne that I found for a really good deal. I have a more formal (vs casual) attire style. I wear a lot of high waisted pencil skirts, 4 inch heels, I wear lots of jewelry, I wear suits to work quite a bit.
I would describe my "purse personality" to be along the lines of the Hermes Birkin or even Mulberry Bayswater but both are out of my budget and I am looking for a classic, well made bag I can carry every day (for work and for weekend).
Based on what I have described, is the Roxanne too casual? Every time I see it styled in pics, the carrier is wearing more casual attire like leggings and long cardis, boyfriend jeans and t's etc.
I would appreciate your opinion. This would be my first Mulberry.

I have several Mulberry bags, including a Roxanne and I also wear suits and dresses to work.

The Roxy is a glamorous bag (it just screams quality leather and craftmanship) and so not exactly casual. But it isn't a delicate style (all those buckles and straps and rosy hardware) and doesn't pair well with very formal clothing. I use mine almost strictly as a weekend bag. I don't think it's impossible to pull it off with your look, but you might be better off getting a Bays (also a great bag).

You may also want to consider an Elgin, which I consider the child of an illicit Bays/Roxanne affair. It might be my favorite Mulberry bag and works better with a formal look (and is available in approximately the same price range on Ebay as the Roxy).

Perhaps in certain leathers it may be formal-ish bit I agree that its classy informal which is probably it's allure.
Personally I would never carry a Darwin/NVT one with say a suit or LBD.

IMO the Roxanne is too casual with sharp dressing. Bayswater would be my choice for you. So many colour and leather choices too.

Have you tried out any of the bags to see how they feel on ?

I would disagree with the posts so far.

I dress the same as you, in a corporate manner each day due to my job. I carry either a bays or a roxy most days. I think a roxy can look fab with a suit - especially if you style it in the right way.

I'm with the others - I don't think I've ever worn my Roxanne with my suit, but saying that, it goes with pretty much everything else. What colour is the Roxanne you have your eye on? I think it makes a difference - black would be smarter than my oak I think.

It sounds like a Bayswater would go perfectly with your 'look' though.

I have never shopped for a Mulberry in person. The one I am looking for has an antique brass looking hardware and is dark brown. I don't know what "darwin" leather is but the leather on this bag is textured (not smooth) but pretty consistent in color (isn't worn and doesn't have the worn leather look).

I agree:tup: I love the fact that the Roxanne is a bit 'rock n roll', she does look equally well dressed up or down, especially in the black leather! As Gemma says, it's all about your attitude and how you choose to wear it! I say go for it, she really is a versatile girl:love:

I agree with GL. Black roxy looks 100% at home in a law firm. I know a female partner who has this bag as her daily staple! xx

OMG! Why am I reading this thread, never mind adding to it!! I absolutely adore the Roxanne. She is my ultimate Mulberry bag. But after having 4 and rehoming all of them I have to admit that I never bonded with them, much to my angst. The black one was great for work, I used it 5 times. (I am an Accountant, wear black pinstripe suits, and she looked fine for work, clients and ultra smart meetings. But not at the weekend). The Oak I thought would be great for weekends, I never used it. The Purple glove with tassels I used for both work and casual, but did not bond with her floppiness. The pink one I loved for a weekend, then found out it was a fake. I would dearly love to find my ultimate Roxy that I bond with and use for both work and weekends!!! I think you can make it work if you get one you bond with!!

Roxanne is my ultimate favourite Mulberry....I think a Black Roxy in good condition would work very well with your formal and tailored look. Either that or a Bayswater which you might find affordable if you wait for the right one to come up!
