Is the older black bals more black?

I have a 09 RH black city and it's stayed black so far, I use it every other day just about. I, too, like jet black and no tinge of any other color. It would be a major bummer if it fades.

Thank you Jira, I didn't know that about 05, I really want a Jet Black one:graucho:

It's definitely possible to get a jet-black this season.

I just bought a beautiful Black Town RH that is absolutely jet black with tiny, very fine distressing through the absolutely black glaze finish, although I exchanged it for another one that has loads more distressing and wrinkles and is a slightly thicker, more chewy leather so that it feels amazingly like the chevre.

The only true black black I have is from 05. But that is just me. I have heard some of the newer ones don'r fade to greensish/grayish, but that is not my experience (esp. 07 as noted above). When compared to my 05, they all look not black black. In fact I did have a 2010 Black Velo which I sent back to Barney's (wrong shape for me) and that was pretty black.

im sure it has been discussed somewhere in this sub forum. if a bag turns that greenish grey and im not happy about it, does Balenciaga do anything about it?

My 07 black day has great leather, but definitely developed a green tinge. I have to say it's my most used bag, and saw a lot of sun. Imo, it's the sun that does it to that year. My ...hmmm, I think it's 08 black city gets a huge amount of use (it's also the bag I take when it rains), and it's definitely faded, but not turned green. They are the only bbags I treat with product , which has kept them alive and kicking.

From what I've seen, 03 is the blackest black and stays that way, no matter the use. I did hear that the 09 blacks were quite saturated, but I don't have one.

It takes a while for these bags to fade/change color, though. I don't want to frighten you, but my 07 was black when I bought it. It took a couples months to a year before I noticed the fading and green tinge. It's too early yet to tell if the current season bags will have a problem.

My 2006 Black City started to turn green after a year of almost daily use. I bought the bag in fall 2007 and used the bag daily until the green started to become obvious, and since then it hasn't been in heavy rotation.

Unfortunately I don't know if I could have helped prevent the greening by either pre-treating the bag or by conditioning the bag. I didn't really think about trying to protect the bag from drying out until the corners started to show significant wear.

I've tried to moisturize with some leather lotion, and when the bag is moisturized the green goes away but within a few days as the bag dries out, the green returns.

Thank you for the heads-up, verty: I'll treat mine with the usual sun-protection cream, then: I did that with my Officier, which has not changed in a year of use, and my Sky Blue, which - despite everyone's worries about yellowing, has never yellowed, although it has faded a shade.

Amazing, the information we find on these threads!

There are lots of newer black Bals that have stayed true black. But the question put me in mind of the old song about how to pick a wife.

:whistle:If you want to be happy for the rest of your life,
never make a pretty woman your wife. :cutesy:

:girlsigh:If you want to to be happy with deep black and no mix,
try to find the Bals from before 06!:wlae:
