Is SI1 Clarity for an E-Ring Okay?

I did pick it out IRL from a handful of choices. It's mind comfort really, of course no one will ever know but you! It does help to know what you're paying for though.

I took a look at the price difference between Gia and eglusa and the price difference is astounding! Seems like even more value for your money. Of course I wouldn't mind having a fabulous diamond while saving money at the same time ;) It's a win-win situation!

IMO too
I don't buy stones to late re-sell, so it's a non-issue for me.
As long as the specs are up to my standard and my eyes see no discrepancy I'm good!

PROBABLY, but size and location would be the decider. In the last few years GIA has actually shifted their grading on clarity a bit that now allows for a black crystal to even be graded as a VS1 or 2!!! I have a huge issue with that, personally, I do not care for anything black being above an SI2 myself. I feel like that should be an automatic. Regardless of size or location.

This is interesting. I've always understood that clarity is based on the amount of inclusions and where they are located. BUt is there even a possibility of having a VVS diamond that has very minimal inclusions but they are black carbon?

My engagement ring is H VS2 but for earrings, I actually bought included 1.5 ct and I love them, the inclusions are like starbursts and I think they sparkle tons. I actually had passed them up in the store, but went back because I kept thinking of them. The sales woman tried to show me others, but I just loved how organic these are. You never know what will suit your fancy, I recommend seeing them in person.

The center diamond in my engagement ring is a VVS1 and the side stones are VVS1-2, I was really picky when picking out the diamonds for my engagement ring, but for other jewelry, SI1 would be okay with me.

I think when it comes to jewelry that has a lot of meaning (i.e. E-ring), you want it to sparkle and shine no matter if it's branded or unbranded so the highest clarity is important to me. But if it were a diamond for pendant, earrings, or even a RHR, I would definitely look into SI1 because of the price point.

I was recently looking at some diamond studs (I ended up opting against them because I'm always scared I'm going to lose one) and they had a clarity of SI1 and it was such a price difference between VS or VVS. Had I decided to get them, I would have done SI1.

My friend has a diamond engagement ring that is graded SI1 (not sure from what lab) and I can see a big black carbon spot slightly off center, but still visible on the table. It's deep set in a Scott Kay halo setting, which IMO makes it look even worse because hardly any light gets into the bottom of the stone. If light got in it would kind of "illuminate" the stone possibly making it look better than it does. That would bother the crap out of me, but she seems okay with it. I guess different strokes for different folks.

Shouldn't be an SI1 if you can clearly see it like that :nogood: Normally in an SI1 you should only see inclusions "easily" in an SI1 under 10x magnification.
Clarity isn't what makes a stone sparkle though; cut is the foremost important factor.

Yeah, I somewhat doubted the SI1 grading since I could see it, but I couldn't just ask to see the diamond cert (though I really wanted too!). This is just what she has told me. I think her cut is good, it's just the black spot! It bothers even ME and I don't wear the ring!

Not putting down Jared's or anything because I know my husband got me a necklace from there for Xmas (I'm nosy and saw the receipt), but I know that's where her husband got it from. Maybe I've been spoiled by Leo Ingwer and having the option to hand pick my diamonds has my judgement cloudy (for lack of a better term), but I would NEVER in a millions years pick out a diamond where I could see a black spot, even if it was from Jared's!

Which would you prefer - sight unseen - Tiffany soleste:

a) .39, "I" color, VVS1 - $4,900
b) .40, "F" color, SI1 - $5,050

I'm leary about SI1 in this case! The center stone is so small with double halo around so is SI1 ok?

I would pick A. Not only is it less expensive, but the .1 carat difference is negligible. And I would always pick a at least a VS clarity in a Tiffany's ring.

Thank you nyc_cady. Do you think there is a huge noticable difference of "F" color and "I" color in such a small stone surrounded by 2 halos?

Not to the naked eye. And especially surrounded by the 2 halos. I think that provided that the diamonds in the surrounding halos are of at least GH color, it will make any I stone look good.

150 for .01 carats is a bit much. I'd pick the I color as well. Honestly, I don't think you'd see a huge color difference because the center is so small. The color becomes much more noticeable when the carat sizes get bigger, but then I am not super color sensitive.
