Is my new gold mini damaged?!

Idk if I will return it or not. At this point I’m just done with Chanel. My husband thinks the silver showing looks cool, but he doesn’t know any better *rolls eyes*. I’m a notorious gold person, so this really worked for me, yet, I do also consider returning it. I feel like every bag like this will have the quality issue, which is why I’m considering keeping it, retouching it myself with gold paint when it gets bad, and just cutting chanel off permanately. My last three chanel bags have had issues and I even bought the flimsy iridescent flaps.

I know, it’s sad.....I have much cheaper bags that haven’t rubbed off like this :sad:

What will you retouch it with? Can’t believe we have to consider this option already!

Thanks for the replies, I thought I was going mad lol. I just feel so sad because it was my first bag purchase from the store.....it’s a lot of money for me to spend on one bag, I thought these bags were supposed to last for years?

I have a vintage patent jumbo, which for the age still looks pretty decent.
I have bags that cost £20 that haven’t worn down so quickly :-s

Yikes. My metallic is wearing off on every part that the embossing sticks out and rubs against body. I’m more than likely going to keep this bag and when it get bad repaint certain spots myself, however, I think I’m offically done with Chanel and sticking with Hermes. I’m heartbroken to say this. I’ve had my bag 3 weeks, if that.

Thanks for sharing.
I own both Chanel and Birkins, but I still prefer my Chanel over Hermes (I know I know, everyone thinks I’m weird)..
But that said, I am very wary of metallic or irridescent leather Chanel made, it seems a lot of people had quality issues and posted here on TPF..

Me too! I love Chanel much more. I have my own share of Hermes quality problem :sad:.

Anyway, it must be so frustrating for the gold to fade off like that! Unacceptable!

Everyone seems to suggest returning.... Just wondering how do you return your Chanel?? I just got through a return of a defective brand new bag. Just a heads up. Chanel do NOT take back defective bags. I repeat they do NOT take back or even exchange defective bags. Only those deemed in re-saleable condition. So for this case, clearly it’s been worn, thus the defect. They’re SOP is to forward it to After Sales Service. And you wait 6-8 weeks. But this kind of leather damage is not an easy fix.

Or is it in the US you can actually return damage Chanels??

In this case, it seems like the bag is actually unwearable. Since it was advertised and sold as a bag that was meant to be used and worn, if when one does wear it there is near immediate damage that is unavoidable, and Chanel denies a return of a bag that was proven to be defective after being worn once .....I smell a lawsuit.

Depends on the local consumer protection law. Base on laws in my country, Chanel can argue:
1) it’s suit for its purpose (as a bag to carry things);
2) the “damage” was caused by the buyer (by wearing the bag);
3) nature of the leather is delicate and hence this is normal wear and tear.
So it’s hard to prove this is a “defective product” eligible for refund or exchange.

On the other hand, if the buyer can prove to the court that she made this purchase based on an oral/written representation of the SA that this leather is very long lasting and this bag would not change its external appearance for minimum X days/months/years of daily normal wear, then we may have a case.

Chanel would honour its 1 or 2 year warranty, ie, repair it for free——the bag be sent to Paris and come back in six weeks and you would be told there’s nothing Paris can do, this is “normal wear and tear” of the bag blah blah blah.

Try go in the shop and ask for exchange. If you don’t get it, that’s very normal. But what if you are super lucky that day?

That is so bad! I cannot believe that you have to experience such a stress paying such a high amount. Unbelievable!!
That’s all that we were talking about quality issues.
I am very sorry that it happened to you. Try to return it as soon as you can And don’t listen to any of their excuses about specific and delicate type of leather and blah blah blah. Again- For this kind of money it’s supposed to last a while even metallic

Well I brought it in-and of course they said there’s nothing they can do:confused1:

I do love the bag so I guess I will just use it in good health for now...

But now I’ve noticed a “fraying” stitch....almost like it’s threatening to pop!

Not only that, I bought two pairs of the trainers, worn one twice....and I can see three loops of stitching already lifted/coming loose!
I’m in the UK and I paid £1400 for two pairs of trainers! I have nikes from years ago that I have abused....still not one loose stitch

I’m shocked and appalled at the lack of quality/craftsmanship of this company. Yes of course they design and create some beautiful pieces-which is why I bought them. But they price?! It’s no longer worth it to me unfortunately. I can admire from a distance from now on

And I’m returning the trainers I haven’t worn yet-today! :annoyed:

Did they even offer to send for a fix? Can't say I am surprised by their response or the quality. Chanel is 'buy with caution' and these days I can't be arsed with it all. Definitely agree with you returning the shoes you haven't worn yet and It is very sad that this is how your first foray into shopping at the boutique went.
