Is my E-ring setting too big?

i want to see pics of ur alternate setting! i think it looks gorgeous on your finger, definitely not too thick, but i don't personally prefer high settings myself because of the constant snagging/hitting of things

I think it looks great! Just ask your jeweler to set the diamond as low as possible. They can cut down the prongs and then it won't feel so high. Remember, the diamond will likely sit with the girdle just a hair above the halo line, not a high as the prongs are now (they make the prongs big so that they have lots of metal to work with to shape the prongs).

Just what I was going to say!:smile1:

you will get more light return out of the center stone with a higher setting...the halo will block some light from getting into the stone.

a good friend in the industry reminded me that regardless of how close the proportions of the stone are to perfection, the unique adamantine luster that a diamond possesses is present on every facet of a diamond. a setting that allows the most light into every angle of the stone makes the most of the facets thereby maximizing the stone's brilliance, sparkle, & light return to the eye. in layman's terms, light entering the stone from all angles allows every single facet to sparkle, inside and out. a stone with perfect proportions and an ideal make doesn't require light from every angle, but those stones are rare. for most diamonds, the more light the better!

HOWEVER, as I stated previously, the most important determining factor in choosing between a low vs high center stone setting is YOUR PREFERENCE. both settings are beautiful, so you can't go wrong whatever you choose. I just wanted to give you all of the information that I know when expressing my opinion so that you can make an informed choice.

I am so excited to see the other "lower" setting, & to see what you finally choose! :yahoo:

^^^^ Totally agree, setting that gives good visibilty to all the diamond,so you get delicious flashes and glints from as much as possible, outside and in,is a winner in my book!

I can't wait to see the finished ring! I love looking at beautiful sparklies!!!

I think it's gorgeous! I love halos; my upgrade has one!

I can't wait to see the finished product! BTW, I also asked my jeweler to set the stone as low as possible and he said it came out to about "medium height".
