Is my E-ring setting too big?

it looks great! i have size 3.5 fingers and my setting is very high also, because i have an emerald cut diamond, and if it was low, any wedding band i wear will not sit flush with it... so my setting is high so that the wedding band can be flush with it.

The setting is gorgeous! You are so lucky to have a friend who made 2 choices for you!

I'd personally go for the lower setting. My e-ring is set low, but not too low- my wedding band is still lower. I hardly ever hit it on anything.

my ring size is also 3.75 and my setting/prongs are too high and I don't like it. I'd personally set it down lower into the halo rather that up so high over it.
Please post the 2nd pic!

Hi Gals! Thanks for the kind words. The other one is different, perhaps only 1mm (between there) lower so it's not that big of a difference. However the biggest different is that since she set it lower, the base of the halo is wider, not a small round circle you see in the pic at the base/middle of the band. So on the lower setting, the wedding ring sits further away. Give and take I guess.

Will post more pics tonight!

it doesn't look too big to me. in fact, I think it looks lovely on you! I am really looking forward to seeing your second choice though before I make a final decision about which I prefer.

I have & like both high & low settings, so I'd like to see the other ring. generally though, I prefer the halo to be close to the center stone.

Yeah I agree - I asked my friend if there will be any gaps between the halo and the rim of the stone and she said no that it was made for my stone's measurements. I just need to set it low so that just "LOOKS" like the pavilion of the stone is up and not like half the stone showing with prongs everywhere.

have you had her place your center stone in each setting for you? she can just place it there while you have the ring on...that way you can see how each looks.

I'm wondering which SHE prefers. you will get more light return out of the center stone with a higher setting...the halo will block some light from getting into the stone. not sure how much of a difference that will make.

of course, the ring will take some time for you to adjust to wearing it, but I think you should look through your own collection of rings. have you mostly chosen rings with low or high settings? how are the center stones of your favorite rings set? this might give you an idea of what your day-to-day preference is for the wearability of a ring.

light return won't be affected by how high or low the stone is placed. Light is reflected from the top of a diamond. Just look at all the beautiful bezel set and halos w/ baskets underneath

I think it looks great! Just ask your jeweler to set the diamond as low as possible. They can cut down the prongs and then it won't feel so high. Remember, the diamond will likely sit with the girdle just a hair above the halo line, not a high as the prongs are now (they make the prongs big so that they have lots of metal to work with to shape the prongs).
