Is Moncler worth it?

Reviving this old thread bc I’m debating consigning my Moncler jackets. Are people still buying from the brand? What are your thoughts on the hermifur fulmar longer jacket fur hood type styles? One thing really giving me pause is that if I wanted to purchase these jackets again I’d be paying 30-40 percent more. Mine range from about a decade to five years old. If I were to keep any it would be my oldest one which imo is the hardiest. My newer ones have a very thin outer layer and have easily scratched. The fit is also meh with the newer ones. For me I’ve found you either get a tight fit with no room to layer or you go one size up and it then becomes a bit unflattering. I have worn these jackets a handful of times these last few years. Mainly it’s bc I like to layer and these newer jackets are too restrictive with movement. Crime is up in my city and for the last few years people have been robbed of their jackets not far from my workplace. Sm has made this brand a lot more visible and so it makes me uncomfortable wearing something so obviously expensive. My style is much more casual and loose fit today. Anyone else feeling meh about their jackets? Do I just stick these in the back of the closet with the hope of wearing them once in a blue moon?

I personally love my Moncler Jackets & Vests....I have not had any problems with wear and mine although only 2-5 years young LQQk and feel like the day I bought them. Also I must say overall as I live in the Northeast I do wear my vests layered and for the most part my Jackets I wear a lot fewer times. Although a highly personal decision I for one would not part with any of them, and I hear your concern regarding being robbed, so yes if you keep them they will be worn when you truly feel safe! Good luck with your decision.

I love my two Moncler down jackets, and I can definitely foresee myself buying more in the future once they wear out. The older of the two was purchased in 2014, and is still going strong (apart from a run, caused by an errant dry-cleaner...), and the newer one is a mix of technical fabric with some wool patches.

Once winter comes around, I rotate between the two Monclers, my Canada Goose Chiliwack, and a Southwestten fur parka.

Moncler will always be in style and purchased as it’s a high-end brand. I would not sell older models as I think they are of better quality than some of the newer models. Several years back I got the newer mens’ Moncler Grenoble Camurac for my boys and it doesn’t appear as nice as my husband’s older model. Additionally, the logo is getter bigger and bigger which I find obnoxious.

More recently, last month, I purchased the Moncler Grenoble Beverley for myself and I wished I had purchased it several years back as it has really increased in price from nearly $2K to $2800. I was told by the SA that Moncler will only use faux fur next year so I’m glad I got it with the real fur.

I would keep your coats unless you think you absolutely will never use them again because if you ever decide you need them, they will surely be more expensive and less affordable in the future.

As for crime, i just make sure I keep it on my person and don’t let it out of my sight. I kept it on me recently instead of packing in my suitcase when I went from hot weather to cold weather and vice-versa. I don’t want to risk getting a $3k jacket stolen.

I would not advise vacuum packing as I read this on their website for care:

“Over-packing and folds can permanently ruin embroideries, artwork, pearls, studs, furs, leather inserts and other delicate parts. We advise careful storage and to take the piece out from storage and let it breathe from time to time.”

It may be wisest to call a boutique directly and ask them.

On my coat, I was able to detach the fur, which I did recently as I felt I didn’t really need it.

Agree with @Chaton . I would keep your older moncler. Better made than the newer ones, and there my be times when you want to pull out a more fashion forward puffy.

I like Bogner.
Agree. I also prefer Bogner to ski in.
In the city, I tend to wear a long moncler puffy or the fitted car length one, fur trimmed hoods, when I want the warmth of a puffy. I think of Bogner as more functional than fashion. But, I don’t wear the fur trimmed coats in wet weather bc they tend to wilt a bit lol:smile: To the poster who asked if these jackets could be vacuum compressed for packing or storage, I wouldn’t. I’d rather wear it on the plane or carry it.

I just want to add that Moncler is not consistent with sizing between models, so best to try it in person before buying it.

For example, I'm size 3 in Maya. But in Moncler x FRGMT 2023 Socotrine I'm size 2.

In any case, still worth it. I like the fit, and the fashion aspect of it, especially the collabs. Too bad they discontinued Gamme Bleu. I could've owned one of those down-filled blazers by Thom Browne, without the Thom Browne price.

have used my Fulmarus for the first time this winter in Hokkaido while on holiday and i must say it is surprisingly warm!! though it wasnt as wind proof as my ski jacket

in a thin thermal top and wool sweater, it keeps me warm during the snowstorm at -10 deg C

definitely a keeper!!!

I bought my Moncler in Kyoto, Japan last Feb as I was NOT PREPARED for how cold it was in Japan! Had to just spring for it because even with layers and a wool coat I was not ready!!! I used it in France this winter and the warmth is amazing. I spot clean it and its just like new!
