Is it silly to carry TWO bags at once?

I generally carry my purse and then a large neutral patchwork cloth tote for my lunch, water, and any papers or other items I have for work that do not belong in my purse. I do not feel odd with this combo because one bag is obviously a nice purse, and the other is just a casual tote. I would feel odd carrying two nice bags though, but that is just me!

Thanks everyone for your input! :) I think maybe the HS tote with my smaller bags would look slightly silly because it is more purse like but my LV neverfull is a lot bigger and holds a tonne so I'm considering using that as my work stuff bag plus one of my smaller bags for personal items.

I used to carry just one big bag with all the stuff I needed for the day but another reason i don't necessarily want to do that anymore is because I like heading out on my lunch to run errands or just go shopping etc and with a big bag I feel like a lose my few personal items in there. Also it ends up being too heavy to carry esp if I'm walking somewhere.

When I have to carry my planner, etc., I usually carry a larger tote style and then keep my legacy swingpack and a wristlet inside. That way, I can just grab what I need for short errands and keep my files, etc. in the larger tote. It's also easier to keep up with one bag, but that's just me.

I always have a work bag in addition to my purse. For me, it's not about the number but how the work bag is shaped (different from the purse), and if it's functional for my job. I think it would look silly if you carried, say, two Sabrinas, or a Sabrina and a hobo of some sort because both are obviously purses. But I wouldn't think twice about carrying a Julianne in addition to another purse, because without the cross body strap, the Julianne looks like a work tote. Sometimes when I need a change of clothes I carry a duffle in addition to my purse, other times when I have lots of meetings, I'll carry a tote for the paperwork, or whatever I need. So all that to say, I think it's fine as long as the work bag is functional for what you do and not too similar to the purse.

I carry a tote bag that holds lunch, papers, agenda, folders and other daily work stuff. To me a tote is not a purse and just a bag to carry my junk in. Non-flashy, plain cloth bag. I also carry a purse that has my personal stuff- wallet, wristlet, keys, phone and makeup. Often I am running errands and do not want to be carrying a huge bag around and just my purse. I do not see anything wrong with two bags.

Sometimes I will use my heritage MF tote along with a smaller bag to a meetup with a client. I know its not very professional looking but its my biggest tote and it can hold my portfolio, portfolio wedding albums (coffee table books) and my notebook with calendar, contracts and other things.

I think it would be weird if you carried to small purses, but if you carry one small/regular size purse and a larger bag that can obviously fit planner, notebook, computer or other work related item -- I don't think that would be weird.

I carry my small sabrina and ergo tote to work. The ergo (regular size) holds my labcoat, lunch and other work things. I like having the tote to just carry my work things so they don't get mixed up with my wallet, phone etc. I think it looks okay.

I used to carry a tote along with my purse to work for misc items that may be work related. The tote was a no name brand, not a Coach. I don't see it as any different than carrying a brief case along with your purse.

ITA. Two bags that are obviously purses might look kind of silly, but a tote or cross-body bag and a purse would be fine. Lots of women carried a purse and a leather briefcase in years past, so there isn't a lot of difference now. If you have a need for two bags, carry them. I know there's a picture somewhere on the forum of Hayden Panetierre carrying a Sabrina and a LV bag, and no one said anything about that!

Several times I've seen women carrying huge knapsacks--for camping--stuffed to the max and then they also have small purses in their hands. That's totally bizarre. I guess it's hard to give up the pretty teenie weenie little purse even though their each carrying a week's worth of rations on their backs.

For me, I have worn a swingpack crossbody and a bigger nylon tote (non-Coach) for my lunch and work material. I find it very handy and useful. I did see a woman on a streetcar carrying one big LV bag and another big Coach bag in each hand. I asked her why she is carrying two large expensive handbags. She said she loves her luxury bags but she is also a med student and has to carry her textbooks. So, both bags contain her textbooks. I totally accepted her explanation. :D

As long as your bigger bag is clearly not a purse it's fine. You should see my Mom..she sometimes carries four bags! A purse, two totes full of paperwork and folders and stuff, and a laptop bag! I don't know how she does it lol.

Good thread... I think 2 purses look funny but a tote/purse combo is fine.

Currently, I carry my laptop bag and a purse to work. But I will be attending college in the fall. Do I need a backpack too? Laptop bag, backpack, gym bag & purse, oh my!
