Is it me? Kelly in Togo or Clemence doesn't seem right

I had actually never handled a Kelly of any style until the other day. My first H bag is a Lindy and is very soft and unstructured. Tuesday I handled some Kellys and was a little disappointed that they were so very hard and structured. I almost walked out of the store until I looked at a Blue Jean togo Bolide. I loved the color and almost passed out when they brought me a 35 Kelly in Blue Jean. Needless to say, I am now the proud owner of a very beautiful and slightly edgy Blue Jean Kelly. I think it's truly a matter of how one is going to use the bag. I was shown a 40 in a very stern looking leather (sorry, "stern" is the only adjective I could think of) I realize now, the 40 was probably a Sellier not a Retourne and it was so structured that she reminded me of a brief case.

I'm the same way. I love retourne Kellys in Togo or Clemence... The look is so modern, which I prefer.

Excellent thread. I originally though of Kellys as very classy and proper and preferred the box selliers. Now the more pics I see of them slouchy retournes are really growing on me as a more casual style. At the moment I'd have to put a 28cm BJ togo or clemence Kelly at the top of my wish list for a first major H bag.

I agree with the ladies who wrote 'It depends on what style you want to represent. I am a jeans-girl and the classic Kellys never caught my attention to buy one, cause I knew I would only wear it once a year - maybe twice.
When I saw this clemence rouge garrance PHW Kelly in the window of Prague last month my heart started bumping and for the first time I was sure that is the Kelly-style for me.

I have a chamonix sellier and a chevre retourne. The Chevre (my avatar) is such an easy bag! I love it, it's easy to open and close, goes with all kind of outfit. The chanonix it's difficoult to open and close but it's beautiful.
I love them both but use the chevre more.

what makes one easier to open and close?
i would think the less structured would be easier.
love my kelly and want another but want it to be very user friendly. i want it to be a go to workhorse bag.

Here's a picture of my Kelly 32 Sellier in souple Chevre. I have NO trouble getting in and out but do usually leave the straps unfastened and tucked under the flap.

I agree that the pebbled and or slouchy Kelly has a completely different feel than the iconic Box/Sellier. I like both but the retourne Clem./Togo is a good fit for my everyday style.

At first I was sellier all the way - my first was a box sellier. As time passed tho, the retourne is really began to grow on me especially since it is a more casual no worry bag if done in togo or clemence.

Actually IMHO it completely depends on the size of your kelly... I have a 40 kelly in clemence (souple), and I cannot imagine what she'll look like if she's a box! And I love the slouchy look, making it more casual and yet still have A LOT of rooms to put everything you need in there on a daily basis. But I totally agree with eveyone: If I want something formal, a box kelly would probably be my choice as well!
