Is it me? Kelly in Togo or Clemence doesn't seem right

I just wanted to add a comment regarding black togo retourne in Kelly. I just purchased one (w/palladium) and I find that for me, it is a younger and more hip bag that it's sister in black box. That is just one woman's opinion and I am not trying to dispute anything that any other poster has said. This is all subjective. I probably feel this way because I'm not 25 anymore and whenever I tried the black box in Kelly sellier, I felt that it was aging and as if I was dressing for a funeral. With all the bags I have this was the one hole in the collection, a black 28 Kelly! Well now I'm happy to say that issue is put to rest for me and I have found my black 28 that I know I will find it useful.

TIA with Shoes that it is silly to have a bag sitting in the closet for the once in a blue moon dress ups. I realize that for me, I have other bags that work best for such occasions and I will just use them instead when the need presents itself.

While I can see how both types of Kelly are beautiful in their own right. I am definitely more a fan of a rigid/sellier Kelly. So, yes I do agree with you that I am not a huge fan of a Kelly in Togo or Clemence.

Thankyou everyone for chiming in. All the explanations have helped my thinking. I just have never seen a togo or clemence kelly in person. Can you tell I don't live near a boutique?

lisa - seeing and holding them IRL does make a difference! I kept buying 32 kellys in both retourne and sellier and always sold them...getting to hold a friend's 28 retourne recently made me go WOW!!! This is it...and it was...and is!!!! For me anyway.....

Well, I think it's a great thing to have one Kelly in Box calf and one in a softer leather of your choice. I enjoy Clemence in my Kelly's because this leather takes color deeper and richer than Togo. I'll use my Clemence Kelly's when I'm dressed casual or when it's really raining out......no slouch. Mine have wonderful form and I've had them for a while now........

What a great thread! The original Kelly, of course, was in box calf and then toile with leather, but some of the newer leathers look great in a Kelly. I think any of the bags in 35 cm is more casual; 35 is too big to be dressy and looks better as an everyday bag to hold alot of stuff. I agree with others that Kelly in togo or clemence looks better in colors other than black. And--I have a black sellier Kelly in a 35 size and I think it is too structured for such a big size. So--my perfect wardrobe of Kellys would be 1) a 28 or 30 cm Kelly croc in sellier--probably black or miel if I wanted something in the brown family 2) a 32 retourne box calf Rouge H Kelly , an absolute classic and 3) a gold or etoupe (or some other light-to-medium Kelly 35 in togo or clemence. (I should be so lucky to have all 3.) And then I would have something to carry for dressy, casual, or in-between times!

I never much cared for the Kelly until I actually held one. It was a black box GH. I am now in love and on a quest. While I now have a greater appreciation for Kellys, it's only the box ones that make me swoon. I love the elegance of box.

It's only black kellys for me, and only in box or croc, sellier.
I have tried but can't seem to love any other combinations as much. But God knows when I will change my mind, again

while i am much more afan of othere skins for the kelly for me it is sellier only but a togo sellier can look very nice !! especially in brighter colors.
the only retournee i would do is a bicolored piping one (pipings are only with retournees so i have no other choice lol)

I had actually never handled a Kelly of any style until the other day. My first H bag is a Lindy and is very soft and unstructured. Tuesday I handled some Kellys and was a little disappointed that they were so very hard and structured. I almost walked out of the store until I looked at a Blue Jean togo Bolide. I loved the color and almost passed out when they brought me a 35 Kelly in Blue Jean. Needless to say, I am now the proud owner of a very beautiful and slightly edgy Blue Jean Kelly. I think it's truly a matter of how one is going to use the bag. I was shown a 40 in a very stern looking leather (sorry, "stern" is the only adjective I could think of) I realize now, the 40 was probably a Sellier not a Retourne and it was so structured that she reminded me of a brief case.
