1.85 on a proper setting with such small size of finger it is more than big.
If you just got engaged congrats!

If in the next years you feel it is not big, you can always upgrade.

My original e ring is a vintage cut RB of 0.5 ct size, and I was overjoyed to be engaged to be married to the love of my life!;)
The only one insisting it wasn't enough was my DH who later upgraded it, when he felt the time was right. I could be just fine with my 0.5!

Don't compromise your future finances and happiness for the size of a ring.
And what an upgrade...your ring is so beautiful! Fits you to a T!!!

Another thing to consider is the setting. I've seen some absolutely gorgeous rings, with smaller diamonds, look fabulous in the right setting.
No matter what...everyone should wear their lovely rings with love, pride and confidence!

I'm confused...did you get engaged with a 1.85 in June? And now want a half carat?

1.85 I think is very big. But half cart is very small...maybe go for 1 ct

1/2 carat is only small to people on this forum, much less 'very' small.
Beautiful quality half-carat will look very nice.

My biggest ring is a .66-- a little more than a half and I would not go more for an everyday ring, since I have smaller fingers and it just doesn't look nice. Sounds like Trustlove is in the same position.

This is not a matter of rationalizing because the finances will not allow. I wear large earrings (about 2ctw and excellent quality)--when I bought them, I was allowed to buy anything I wanted and could have bought a ring ~1.75 ct solitaire for same price but did not because I didn't like that size of ring on my hand. Some people don't.

I have several diamond solitaires and find that I often love REALLY small rings better. I just bought a ring with a .07 solitaire (antique) and it is very gorgeous. The .07 is a 'D' Color diamond which outshines many of the larger stones I have seen, including ones over one carat.

I think big and small can be appreciated and different things look good on different hands, and different people have different tastes. I hope Trustlove with post a picture of her .50 solitaire if and when she gets it. I'd like to see!

The ring I have been wearing recently is a round diamond. I plan on getting the round classic tiffany setting. I'm very happy with the size ring I will be getting which I believe is around .54ct. I've gotten so use to wearing one of my moms rings that is about .50ct and love the size I think it fits me very well. My DF would like me to go bigger eventually, but for now around .50ct is perfect. I know I can always upgrade in the future if I want.

Just to clear up some things my Fiance and I have been engaged for a little while now but we had yet to purchase the ring. I had just looked at different rings but never made the big purchase. This thread is kind of old and I've changed my mind a 1001 times. I think any size ring is perfect for the wearer. Its a very subjective question.

I'm very happy with my final choice. I will definitely post pics when I get it.

trustlove, if I remember right you were looking at a cushion shaped diamond? What shape is the one you've been wearing around? A .50 cushion will look smaller than a .50 round., just so you know. If you are really set on that size you might need to go up a little in cushion carat weight to keep the same spread on top.
My original e-ring was a 0.5 and my upgrade was a 1.55. The upgrade is honestly too big for me. Had my .5 been a well cut stone, perhaps I wouldn't have wanted to upgrade. I have an old mine cut .90 ring too, and that size is probably the most perfect for me. (which is probably like a .75or slightly larger RB).
And on a side note, my parents are very well off. Even so, she still wears the .21ct diamond my father purposed with all those years ago. She feels no need for an upgrade or a larger diamond just because they can. I think it was a total suprise when he purposed, she had no say in the ring, and and she loves it as such...a gift from him to her.

That is SO sweet! It's always nice to see someone happy with what they've got, and remember the sentiment behind it.

WE look forward very much to seeing it. It's fun to look--and even more fun to have finally settled on something.
A .50 carat Tiffany is going to be beautiful.

There are tons of people here that have bigger ring fingers than 5.5 and wear smaller center stones than 1.85. There is no rule. I think people (myself included) would be a little hurt to have someone question that their diamond isn't big enough. Last week my finger was sized at a 5.5 and my diamond that is being reset is a 1.25. Does anyone here honestly think that is too small? Sorry if I'm sounding harsh but I feel a little insulted.

In my T&Co. engagement ring searches on here I saw a thread you posted named something like "Tiffany Tiffany Ring" and you were discussing "tiny" half carat rings. I love my Tiffany RB solitaire, which is .35 carat. I never question size or style because it's what my fiance chose with love. I just think it's funny you're offended by this poster's question when you have a thread entitled something like "Tiny Tiffany Ring" and clearly didn't think that was offensive. Just sayin...

Is a 1.85 center stone big enough for a 5.5 ring size. If anyone has pics of 1.85 or bigger can you please post.

I agree with the others, the most important thing is that it's from your loved one :smile1:

tiffany_lover - I don't remember a thread that I began called "Tiffany Tiffany ring". Could you be mixing me up with someone else? I'm not saying I didn't do it but I really don't remember. Anyway, my sincerest apologies if I have offended anyone. I absolutely love tiny and dainty jewelry and I didn't and wouldn't ever think of tiny as being a negative. Just yesterday I purchased a tiny dainty garnet necklace which is currently my favorite necklace. And I love my .54 carat princess ring. I only pointed out that trustlove went from a 2.5 to a 1.85 to a .54 and if big diamond was important - then she might be able to get a little bigger doing a non-Tiffany. Again, I love teeny tiny and sincere apologies if I have phrased or titled any of my threads poorly.

I meant to write "tiny tiffany ring" not "tiffany tiffany"
I felt offended by that thread just as you are by this one. Anyways moving on...

tiffany_lover - I found it and you are correct. Again, I'n so sincerely sorry to offend you. I will be more careful and sensitive in my future threads and posts. I truly love smaller stones and sentiment is of utmost imortance to me.

Its really up to different people's perception, isn't it? I have a size 6 finger and wear a 1.13 solitarie ring....LOVE it!

My friend has a size 3 finger and her 1.35 solitarie looks HUGE :D....
