I don't think it would be bad! Embroidery does sound like a very good idea, but I'd probably draw flowers budding out from a corner and use rhinestone's as the center of the flower.

Isn't there something in the one of these threads where Coach had a bunch of celebritys paint on a plain canvas tote and sold them for charity???
