Influencers and Hermes

I mean, is it actually that opposite? Say, if we accept the fact that luxury items used to be something that middle or upper middle class person can afford, probably with a certain stretch (not anymore though given the state of the economy), then why would we expect them to deliver some luxurious artifacts otherwise. Maybe this is what the things are - those people are doing somewhat beyond the average, having a bunch of luxury garments because that’s what they focus on for whatever reasons.
Could be but my comment was about influencers who flex a life of luxury on social media like they’re ultra wealthy but in reality they regularly resell their stuff and other items on ig stories or h fb groups (eg multiple pairs of orans and chypre) and spouse and influencer have ordinary jobs but yet seem to spend several hundred thousand a year shopping at luxury stores. (I wonder if the irs ever pays attention to any of these influencers  and do these influencers not realize that it’s so easy to see when they resell given the luxury community isn’t that big?)

I saw one influencer who regularly flexes exotics post ig stories about her kid’s birthday but it was at a relative’s strip mall nail salon with a sad looking cake and a couple of balloons. Was that all she could afford? Maybe her kid isn’t a priority. Maybe that’s what her kid wanted. Like I said people can do what they want but I would prefer that they be real about it. I appreciate the influencers who are honest and say hey I overspent and I’m on ban island after buying all this stuff. That’s reality - not someone who regularly resells and gets a faubourg and gets bad prof pictures taken of them in cliche berets and short skirts at an outdoor Parisian cafe in dead winter.

There was someone I used to follow on sm and eventually unfollowed after noticing some of their items actually were not authentic. This person like others on sm buys a mix of authentic and fake goods. Why do people do this? For more followers likely. Apparently the desire to flex and have people fawn on them outweighs any sense of moral responsibility. Who wants to follow a fraud? Support someone who buys fakes and supports that dark and illegal industry of forced child labor and human trafficking?

Sm is a Barbie world fantasy land in a lot of cases.

Some people call this ‘not taking things at face value’. Oh c’mon l’m sure we have done this to some extnet at some point before, looking up people on linkedin and googling their names
No, I can't quite say that I have ever looked up an influencer's home address or their significant's other's job, much less what their role pays. But maybe my disinterest in counting others' money in their wallets makes me a less-than-ideal person to be opining on the spending habits of influencers.

with Hermes becoming more recognizable as $$$$ in the resale market due to influencers, does this pose a potential risk to the people out and about while wearing their Bs and Ks? meaning is there a higher risk of the B/K or wearer becoming a target to get mugged?

since the pandemic I’ve inadvertently started to wear my bags facing towards me to conceal them a bit.

Wow love your boots ! I carry my bags inwards too to avoid unnecessary attention.

Ibiza airport is its own thing...I wouldn't extrapolate to "scary times" from that. Leaving a bag unattended in Ibiza airport with two Kellys in it...I would never blame the victim, but it just isn't the best place to do that :crybaby:
I assume they knew what they were looking for. Supposedly every bag in the Keepall had airtags and they were all "removed" according to IG. Also there is CCTV footage..we'll have to stay tuned to this story..I bet more comes out.

Mel in Melbourne's collection is extremely over the top. At first it was a fantastic bit of luxury escapism, but now it's clearly a case of gross overconsumption.

How can anyone afford that much from EVERY brand?
Speaking of her, she is really dishonest. 3 years ago she promoted a luxury retailer/reseller and they were caught selling fakes. She made a whole apology video and fast forward 3 years later, she started working with the brand again. They were recently exposed selling counterfeit items AGAIN. The fact that she decided to work with this brand again proves that she has no integrity and only cares about money. Like you said, this is overconsumption at its best and she will literally work with anyone to make money in order to sustain this image of herself that she created. I myself love watching unboxing on youtube, but now I feel like with her, it is not about loving the brand or being a collector, it's about keeping up appearances.

Regarding influencers...
Someone gushing breathlessly for what seems like an eternity whilst holding up an Orange carrier bag or box, making a HUGE build up to opening up the box containing a bag we've all seen before and know every minutae of, then watching the 'influencer' spending another 20 mins gushing over their mini Kelly/Birkin 25/Kelly 25/Birkin 30/Mini Lindy/Constance/Evelyne TPM etc etc..
How can that Influence anything other than the need to yawn, feel bored or in my case get angry 2 mins in that that I succumbed to the click bait vid title in the first place.:confused1:

I’m so shocked that Bryan boy got robbed today or yesterday! The thieves took his passports, cards, plenty of jewelry and valuables (including an alligator Mini Kelly and his first ever Kelly Doll - Picto) I’m kinda scared to even purchase something like a Birkin or Kelly due to you might get robbed or become a target ! Such scary times we’re living in
I certainly don't wish anyone ill will, but its KARMA! On Bryan Boy's stories a while ago he made fun of an Indian girl for standing in line for Goyard and said he only has a dog leash from them. It was not cool at all and I personally found it classless and bigoted.

BB's behaviors baffles me. His whole diva attitude is so cross and obnoxious...

My question is, what has he done? Like ACTUAL relevant work in the fashion industry?

He often makes derogatory remarks about America and Italy, accusing both countries of being racist and homophobic ( generalization, anyone???:coolio:), still, 80% of his clients are Italian brands. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Agreed! He degrades us Americans constantly! He is superiority complex is disgusting. He called women *h+÷kers* for wearing Loro Piana. I stopped following him and a whole bunch of other well know influencers because of the cringe level. They don't need to be relatable but at least have a certain level of decorum. There are a few influencers with less known following that have much more tastful display of Hermès and luxury info/posts..especially the former SAs..the one from London is amazing so much more class than FSH!
