Influencers and Hermes

Overall, we all may want to take a step back if influencer content is affecting us to the extent that we are looking up home addresses or job listings. The social media algorithms show you more of what you watch the most. If you feel overwhelmed by what is being pushed to you, you can click some other kinds of videos and soon your feed will change.

Agreed. If people are low-key stalking influencers and engaging in pocket-watching, and stirring themselves up into a frenzy over what these influencers buy and how they afford it... it's time to take a break.

Influencers & the influence they have over the people that live & die watching them more or less needs to
be put into perspective.
Yes, at one time it was "special" to share the joy of someone opening up their H box & perhaps
their story of how they made the decision to have that one special bag or whatever item they chose.
Now it has become repetitious & at time just overwhelming.
And many of us are seeing through all of this..

Just like everything in life, too much of a good thing is never a good thing.

People can spend their money however they want to. If they want to sell and buy and sell and buy that’s their prerogative. But every time they unbox a bag or a jewelery piece it’s always attached to some organizer ad or jewelry ad. So one can assume their ad revenue probably covered whatever they bought. I don’t think any of these influencers ever said “oh I’m so rich and I’m a heiress or what not.” But the way they consume implies they got a lot of money to burn….or they’re knee deep in debt. Who knows. Honestly I don’t even care. I just want to see what’s new out there.

However, the more they do crazy unboxings, the more unrelatable they become. And that might affect subscription levels? Who knows. I just know their advertiser and what they buy just don’t make sense. It just feels fake and cheap and that’s my opinion. like who buys a Cartier pave bangle and then wear lab grown ear studs. Doesn’t compute

Being a luxury influencer is a huge hamster wheel. If they stop unboxing they lose followers. If they unbox too much they also may lose followers. Such is life.

Hermes influencers in particular and their perceived overconsumption/constant unboxing seem like such a paradox to the brand (relationship, prespend, offers, generally sparse stock). It’s no surprise peoples’ feathers are ruffled when they watch or hear of a person getting offer after offer or unboxing after unboxing. IMO it’s normal to question how and from who/where the item(s) were obtained…

I don’t even watch videos and I can’t help but wonder along with you all! I always assumed it was mostly fakes shown

This. What I hate about the influencers is that now many people on my life see my bags and assume I’ve spent resale prices etc. and have all sorts of opinions of Hermes or question my shopping whereas it used to just be I had nice bags I enjoyed.

I suspect many influencers resell or borrow bags from resellers or related product providers that they have partnerships with. Some of the influencers are silent on where they obtained the bags. But that’s a guess, I generally don’t watch them.

Smart and logical people verify facts and do not follow blindly. If an influencer will "influence" my life, might as well, make sure that what she is telling me is true and correct. I don't know if anyone here wants to be duped, but I certainly don't. If she is a wearing a nice and expensive ring and I am interested in it and want to purchase one too, and she says she bought it from XYZ high-end jewelry store, I want to make sure that it's real and she really has it. If she is using a fake one and I am listening to her fake reviews because in reality she cannot really afford one and hasn't even seen one up close, then she just wasted my time and did me a disservice. An influencer may also be a "good reference" for a product. A good reference needs to be confirmed/authenticated/validated. Even when I am not buying, I still want to hear accurate reviews and insightful thoughts from real experiences about certain things to educate myself about it. Some influencers are truly wealthy, some are not. And that is okay. Only that what they are claiming should match with their stories. Posers, for obvious reasons, get their feathers ruffled when you try to verify their sources of income and financial capabilities, and see if it matches with what they have. At this day and age, it is easier to get uncovered if you are faking things about you, especially as an influencer.

I think there are some insightful points being made here about wanting to know who we follow. I think it’s also just natural for people to be curious about how people afford these expensive items and not just one or two but multiple items and sometimes spending hundreds of thousands a year. Of course we want to know whether this person is genuine or a total fraud. If they're a fraud their possessions may all very well be fakes and then there’s a decision point of whether or not to follow a fraud.

Search engines these days are so good you only have to put in the influencers name and the rest prepopulates with other popular searches. Sometimes i just want to know if the person has a blog and next thing you know the search pre populates with the influencers address or husband.

If people want to show off luxury and spend all their money on it, ok that’s their prerogative but it’s dishonest showing a life of luxury when it’s opposite from the truth. And it’s the influencers who are actually resellers who are the worst - the ones who sell constantly in h fb groups and then show these fantastic lives on ig when in fact they’re selling every prespend item to acquire bags and then later resell them.

with Hermes becoming more recognizable as $$$$ in the resale market due to influencers, does this pose a potential risk to the people out and about while wearing their Bs and Ks? meaning is there a higher risk of the B/K or wearer becoming a target to get mugged?

since the pandemic I’ve inadvertently started to wear my bags facing towards me to conceal them a bit.

Some people call this ‘not taking things at face value’. Oh c’mon l’m sure we have done this to some extnet at some point before, looking up people on linkedin and googling their names

I’m so shocked that Bryan boy got robbed today or yesterday! The thieves took his passports, cards, plenty of jewelry and valuables (including an alligator Mini Kelly and his first ever Kelly Doll - Picto) I’m kinda scared to even purchase something like a Birkin or Kelly due to you might get robbed or become a target ! Such scary times we’re living in

Ibiza airport is its own thing...I wouldn't extrapolate to "scary times" from that. Leaving a bag unattended in Ibiza airport with two Kellys in it...I would never blame the victim, but it just isn't the best place to do that :crybaby:

it’s dishonest showing a life of luxury when it’s opposite from the truth
I mean, is it actually that opposite? Say, if we accept the fact that luxury items used to be something that middle or upper middle class person can afford, probably with a certain stretch (not anymore though given the state of the economy), then why would we expect them to deliver some luxurious artifacts otherwise. Maybe this is what the things are - those people are doing somewhat beyond the average, having a bunch of luxury garments because that’s what they focus on for whatever reasons.
