Influencers and Hermes

I do like Alice actually, she has some style at least unlike SS who is unbelievably tacky. All about the clicks, analysing data and going whichever way the wind blows. She is forever posting about SAVE YOUR MONEY DONT BUY HERMES, and then she buys Hermes and promotes some bizarre looking Chanel style jackets with gaudy gold buttons. if you want to nail the overpriced tacky fashion look SS is your girl.
The one point she makes in this video that I think is most pertinent to us is that Hermes is “mistreating” loyal customers in favor of young, trendy influencers. Possibly just younger, trendier clients. I do feel like I’m aging out of Hermes in a way. Like they really are looking for the 25-35 client.

Their designs since the pandemic have very much been trending younger with crop tops and ice cream designs and many silks with busy futuristic designs. Some might find it funny and cute but for the older sophisticated women some of the designs are unappealing and juvenile.

I don’t think so. I think it’s social media that leading us to believe it. At that age, it’s not sustainable unless they’re in a high, high income bracket with no other dependents or a load of credit card debt. And if they are truly, then I’ve long ago aged out. I no longer chase the Birkin, I’ve walked into too many very very reputable second market shops and seen my dream bag on the shelf (albeit, double the actual retail price, but still less than the prespend + retail), and regardless of your stance on resale vs store bought, it all comes down to dropping at least $25k for a bag. If Hermès isn’t going to give me, a customer who will gladly fork over at least $12k in their store, the respect or even a bit of attention and kindness, then maybe I’m not the client they’re looking for. And maybe they’re not the company I’m looking for.

I completely understand the sentiment—many a long-time Hermès client feels neglected, and it's easy to interpret the focus on younger, trendier faces as a change in values. I am not so sure though. Hermès has always balanced tradition with innovation. Jane Birkin was in her 30s when the Birkin was born, and even then she was hardly a conservative style icon. ;)The Bolide introduced the zipper to handbags. They’ve never shied away from being forward-thinking.

And in terms of sustainability, Hermès was experimenting with mushroom leather well before it became a trend—long before Stella McCartney, who’s now widely credited with pioneering ethical fashion.

As for influencers, I wonder how much of their access is real versus curated perception. Hermès has always played the long game— loyalty and timeless quality. I don’t think they’re abandoning us; they’re simply broadening the conversation.

In summation: She was part of the problem and “this is…this is the becoming”
Oh spare me😩. From Hermes know it all to Dalai Lama for broken women. Ok. Sure.

BTW, there are so many internal inconsistencies in her message of “healing.” She says she did not stop buying Hermes because she is broke. Don’t for one minute believe that when in her next breath she wants to counsel women not to go into debt to buy Hermes. Wow, I cannot believe that this person has anyone’s attention.

Anyway, I don’t follow her other than what is posted here for my entertainment.

I don’t think it’s healthy to buy buy buy a bunch of things that you will need to resell to get a bag. Or go into debt to get a bag. Full stop. Like @haute okole , I don’t follow any influencer except on this thread, but I might be interested to hear the story of an influencer who had to stop her retail spiral due to divorce. It would be more interesting than the current stuff influencers peddle

Agreed, but I want to listen to someone who is honest about their experience. This particular woman lacks credibility to the point where I am just wondering if this is another grift.

So she's officially off the luxury youtube bandwagon and transitioning to female entrepreneurship (or money management?). Wonder how long until she starts selling pre-made video courses and 1:1 phone calls? She must have seen financial creators make the most money. All of these online coaches type the same way -- so salesy lol.
