I completely agree with him! People hated on it when they couldn’t afford it or get it, and now they’re the first ones lining up to buy a fake one. And if they hate them and make fun of the people that buy real ones, who are they trying to impress with carrying a real one? Is it just the love of the design?! No. We all know it’s not. It’s to try and trick someone into thinking it’s real.

I really want to hear your thoughts on this. And I can’t believe Hermès hadn’t put a full force stop to this yet. It’s trademarked isn’t it?

I really dislike how Birkin and Kelly got so much social media exposure over the years, these bags used to be lowkey and off the radar, now every Tom and Jerry knows about these bags, especially the pickpockets and thieves 🙈 but on the positive end, with all those Firkins around, maybe some people seeing a real Hermes bag will assume it’s a fake 😄

In a nutshell what is his point of view about this? I am trying not to watch it…

In a nutshell, wirkin buyers are failed birkin buyers who want to pose and flex and aren't aware that the fakes are very obvious to the people who they want to impress.
I didn’t watch the whole thing. Thank you.

At the start I felt like he was also focused on the fact that people buying Hermes in store don’t give a hoot about the wirkin, as in “you aren’t sticking it to the rich birkin owners by buying a wirkin” (which I agree with) AND that the wirkin is not going to affect Hermes (which I also agree with).

Oh. Also one thing I think is an important point that he made is that dupes are often funding shady criminal organizations. It’s kind of along the lines of fast fashion is terrible for lots of reasons beyond just being bad quality and bad fashion.

Yes, I have also heard that they are funding terrible organizations with the money. I wish more people were aware. Thank you for bringing it up.

Thank you for posting the synopsis - I could not possibly watch it - and rely on TPF to stay au courant. I don’t think that the Walmart birkin is taking customers away from Hermes - it’s an entirely different target market. It’s also unlikely to be funding terrible organisations - presumably Walmart is a legitimate business, registered and paying taxes etc.
A lot of this hoo- ha is influencers trying to maximise clicks. ´look you paid thousands for a bag that is only worth $60’ or whatever… It is now well known that making people indignant/angry is a sure way to keep them on line.
I think I should post that in the unpopular opinions thread, personally I have no problem at all with anyone who wants to buy a polythene ´birkin’ shaped bag with a strap and no feet.
It will be interesting to see though, if Hermes shuts this down with legal action.

The seller is just using Walmart as a platform, so it could still be funding illegal activities.

He mentioned in the video that Hermes sent a cease and desist in already. Not sure if that’s true or not.

Another point he mentions is that people will cry foul if someone stole their original design but since they’re the one stealing it, ie by buying a dupe, then it’s ok. Basically hypocrites.

I don't like hypocritical people who buy fakes because they lie they "love the design", show them off as real, but claim are not stupid (!) to waste money on the original. They also call the owners of the original Birkins as stupid show offs who aspire to higher class who spend 30k on a bag. They laugh on us. On reddit you can find a lot of topics "where to buy almost identical replica" though. Those with fakes usually show off more. Influencers often mix fakes and originals. I only follow animals and few friends on IG.
Walmart issue will be gone, ust another scandal, Hermes been copied for decades. However, I have to admit to be completely honest that it's kind of weird to be with your "baby" in a room full of people who bought fakes. With tennis bracelets with huge "diamonds" - zirkonians. I wonder if finally Hermes will do something about it. In another decade or two "everyone" might have it and honestly, some rarity... Looking what happened to LV, everyone coming back from Turkey with a "new" bag has become a joke.

I love when a certain youtuber always jumps on anything Hermes without any knowledge of the brand and clearly bitter because she can’t get one. It‘s getting ridiculous at this point. Of course she had to make a video about the bum walmart birkin 😂
