Thanks!! You too. Where are you from in the Middle East? Is there a good market for high end handbags? :)

i'm from United Arab Emirates, and believe me if you got a great handbags design they gonna sell like hot cakes.

it's all about you... if u believe ur product deserves to be made, and it's artistic enough, its gonna sell anywhere in the world. just believe.

Who makes the bags you carry now? I have been making and designing purses for 3 years now, I am a tailor by trade (over 20 years). I use some untraditional hardware for my bags. The feet I buy from a wholesaler out of CA. The buckles and other closures I get from just about anywhere. I do have a metal worker friend who will make anything special when I need it.
I would start off by taking custom orders at first.
Just keep talking to everybody you meet and one day it'll pay off!

That is awesome!!

My hubby brought me some photo albums when he was there. I love them!

That is great that you are in a place where they would sell.
Of course if you have great designs they will sell but I think in some places it is harder to get launched since there are designers everywhere. Such as NY, LA, even here in SD.

You will have to show us some of the bags you've made, they sound fabulous!!

I am so excited for you!

hi there. a couple of questions and thoughts.

what are you currently using when you design your own handbags? is it leather? synthetic? fabric? have you been sewing them yourself so far? do you have a home sewing machine or do you do it by hand?

i'm asking because if a fashion school or course is out of your reach at the moment for any reason, it may be a good idea to start small and do a little self-study before you decide this is not just a hobby but a serious business idea. the best part of this is, that if you do decide to go into it as a business or go into a fashion design course, you already have a solid basic foundation of knowledge on techniques and materials.

i am sure you will be able to do your own research off the internet but i thought i'd paste some searches here that i did for you:

1. books on making your own handbags and purses:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=br_ss_hs/002-0551280-9177637?platform=gurupa&url=index%3Dblended&keywords=making+handbags+and+purses

2. a search for leather suppliers in the middle east:

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2005-52,GGLG:en&q=leather+suppliers+middle+east

3. the website of the leading textile and leather industry exhibition in the middle east (perhaps you can look for suppliers on this site)

http://www.motexhaonline.com/index.cfm/page/content/contentid/94/menuid/122

4. a search for fabric and textile suppliers in the middle east:

http://www.google.com/search?q=fabric+textile+suppliers+middle+east&hl=en&lr=&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2005-52,GGLG:en&start=10&sa=N

5. a search for handbag making supplies:

http://www.google.com/search?q=handbag+making+supplies&revid=17395495&sa=X&oi=revisions_inline&ct=revision&cd=1

also, do look into your country's copyright or patents laws for ways to protect your intellectual property.

good luck and i'm excited for you.

If you travel to Hong Kong, I could hook you up with some handbag factories that would produce your own design. They could also source hardware with your name on it. :) Good luck!!

i was also going to suggest suppliers and subcontractors in hk and china, anne  -- i think they produce some of the least expensive supplies nowadays for most crafting and arts! however shaim, as i'm sure anne would also caution, do find ways to protect your designs. as you'll read from many threads on the forum, many counterfeits also come from these areas. the best of luck and hopefully soon we'll be discussing YOUR bags on the forum! :smile1:
