I'm in love with a new Dolce and Gabbana denim tote bag but I'm struggling with not wanting to support them because they're batsh$t crazy.

Very interesting, I have done things similar to that myself. The "China" issue was supposedly an Asian female model eating a cannoli with chopsticks. The model didn't seem to mind. She did the job and I'm sure was paid well for it. We dont want to get into what's going on in China and people NOT getting paid to work so...I didn't see anything wrong with that. It seems rather strange that some of their "anti" stuff was towards LGBT community which is ironic since D&G are/were an openly gay couple for 23 years. They made a comment about not supporting "synthetic children" meaning IVF and surrogate mothers so ELTON JOHN freaked out, understandably. But that's their religious beliefs, ironically. They created a sandal and named it the "Slave". I can definitely see an issue with that. Definitely a name in poor taste but I don't think it was intentionally named to insult black people. I just cant believe their staff didn't say like, hey, dudes, that's not going to go over too well. Maybe they're just dumb. It's just so complicated. All over a handbag!

Generically, that is the name of the sandal, a Roman slave sandal denoting the slaves that Romans kept and could well be ancestors of either partner. However, AD, and especially in the 21 century, it was clearly going to be an own goal. As you say 'dumb'.

Interestingly many don't mind going around with Cartier's 'slave' bracelets, the Love design obviously based on 19C slave shackles. Just saying.

I did not know that about Cartier. I don't own any of their items. Interesting that you need a key to open the bracelet, if I am correct. Thanks for sharing that bit of info.

Correction, maybe not a key, a screwdriver??

If they want to recapture the American and Chinese market, D G will have to modernize their views and adapt to the 21st century.
As far as their hateful speech against homosexuality, it is nothing but internalize hate and bigotry.
Maybe, it is chaos and controversy marketing.
Sharon Stone and JLo rep them. And they look fab in their ads.

Thanks for sharing. I honestly think they're just dumb, lol. I don't think their comments come from a malicious place. I honestly think they are idiots. And when they are called out, like Pluto and Goofy...they're like oh we didn't mean it that way and they kind of circle back:smile:
I don’t excuse these kinds of people as “dumb”. They built a multi million dollar business and (with staff) manage to stay relevant fashion wise for decades. They have knowledge in various subjects that they draw on for their designs. They understand complex construction and tailoring. They’re well traveled, etc.

These kinds of people aren’t unintelligent. They’re willfully and actively cavalier about people who are not like them in regards to race, religion, beliefs, etc. Then they pretend to be misinterpreted or sorry when their PR firm says “Enough! This is costing you revenue!”

So, not dumb. Arrogant, actively bigoted and cavalier.

Sometimes, I wonder if it is a calculated move to create renewed excitement in the brand.
(Karl Lagerfeld was also a hateful curmudgeon and was considered a designing genius who grew his brands to the next level.
Boy was he nasty especially when he stopped eating.)
It is a wonder none of these old men were metoo’ed.

I guess you're right, we the consumer are the dumb ones, lol. Countless models and celebrities' of all races, genders and sexual orientation sport their stuff too. It's like this woman on youtube. She goes by HRH Collection. She's a self made millionaire. She's 37 and really pretty. She does videos and rants, curses, says mean things to the "audience". She's constantly looking in the mirror and brushing her hair. She has thousands upon thousands of views and likes. And she has her own line of clothing and jewelry so she's doing something right. It's like her gimmick. She sounds spoiled, obnoxious and totally conceded. But people love her. I find her entertaining. Check her out if you get a chance.

Yeah, I can’t. The new era of bad behavior being rewarded and embraced isn’t for me. I don’t even want to contribute one view.

But, I agree. We, the public, don’t hold businesses accountable so we get what we “deserve”. We have to do better. And, I say that with my very first comment being clear that I know I buy in some indefensible ways too. :hrmm: This thread is great food for thought! I need to think more about who gets my money / views / support.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new Dolce and Gabbana denim patchwork tote. I had a Coach bag about 12 years ago that was denim patchwork. It was one of my favorites. I love the look but I'm not happy with D&G and their reputation. I cant find any other bag like that, that I like except Chanel and well....I dont have that kind of cash flow. The celebrities are all sporting D&G. Celebrities and models of all races, colors and genders so why cant I??? Anyone? Thoughts on this topic??
darrrrrrrrn I wanted to tell you to let it go bc jeans bags are so 80ies but this bag ist GORGE.

need one.

So, second person with the same problem ;)

(did you try luisaviaroma, sometimes they have coupons..?)

I just assumed most of her views are hate views. She’s abusive and nuts.

I have tried to buy some D&G but I can’t get passed their idiotic beliefs when they themselves are openly gay couple. I just can’t.
Perhaps when they retire and the brand will go on without them…lol

How is carrying the bag going to make you feel? Will it bother you? I ran into the same thing a while back, but with D&G’s summer dresses. Their IT36 fits me perfectly and I love their more classic summer dresses… and yes, I have a fair number of them in my closet. But I don’t agree with the designers’ opinions at all. For awhile I tried to find an alternative (the closest being Zimmermann), but in the end (right or wrong), I went back to wearing my D&G dresses because they make me feel pretty when I wear them - more so than any other brand.
