I'm in love with a new Dolce and Gabbana denim tote bag but I'm struggling with not wanting to support them because they're batsh$t crazy.

My vote is keep the bag. I used to feel strongly against Chanel when I did research but my boyfriend, who is Jewish, said to me a statement that rings true. It was a world war and EVERYBODY had some entanglement in it. If you do away with everyone who has had shade in their past, your going to wind up with nothing. I like to think these houses learned from their mistakes.

Don't worry about judgement. I am 48 now, and if I was judged by someone because of a handbag, I would be sure they would be judging me on other things as well. With a judgemental person, it is never "just one thing". Bless that person and wish them well, so much so, they get out of your path. You don't need negativity.
I agree that all brands have a shady side but it seems that D&G are still very much controversial to date. It's not like their statements and advertisements were from 30 years ago. The bag hasn't arrived yet and I'm actually hoping I don't like it in person. I doubt that will happen but I'm hoping. I can save $2000 and a lot of guilt! Thanks for sharing your opinion:)

I'm in the crowd that just wants to say, awesome thread title.

I struggled with this too because D&G clothing fits me really well when not much else does. But I had to dump them as a brand. I won't touch their stuff. So I get it.

I agree with what pretty much everyone has said - we can't be perfect, it's relatively insignificant to them (not like you're investing deeply into the company, or like they'd *know* that Cocobeans refused to buy from them because of their brand of crazy), and you should do what makes you happy.

I would only ask, without any judgment at all, if you can enjoy the bag 100%. If so, yes, enjoy it forever! If it will bug you a bit every time you use it, I'd return and wait for a bag you can love without question.
It hasn't arrived yet but I'm sure I would enjoy it because no one in my circles wears luxury bags nor do they follow issues regarding them. It's a bit like how I feel about meat. I absolutely would give up meat if I knew my one cheeseburger would make a difference but I know it wont. Then again, if we all think like that, we can never make change. The struggle is real! LOL

I hate everything those two bozos are saying and doing but their style is so freaking awesome.
If you are a rational cost oriented person, it is a poor financial investment.
How much do you REALLY love the bag?
Oh I know without a doubt there will be no resale value but I try to buy things I adore and not what they may be worth down the road. I truly looked online for a similar bag but I did not like anything except Chanel or Louis Vuitton and I wont spend $3000-$6000 on one bag. It's bad enough I allow myself to spend close to $2000. I don't normally do that unless it's LV because they do have a good resale value and I still have limits on what I will spend on an LV bag but I cant stop looking at this D&G bag. Thanks for your input:)

Maybe pre-loved? So you can have the bag you like but you're not supporting their sales directly?
Absolutely thought of that same exact thing. I couldn't find it for less money. I only own two bags purchased from Fashionphile. Fashionphile did not have this bag last I checked. All my other bags are from the boutiques or department stores. I have a fear of buying a fake. I'm starting to trust Fashionphile because the two purchases were new with tags and I'm very happy with them and I have sold about 5 bags to them with great experiences, but I still have reservations about it. I will not by a used bag for the same money it cost to buy it new. That's another issue I have, LOL. A whole new thread I'll start about pre owned sites. Thanks for your help!

In my line of work we have this same problem - I can't feel completely comfortable playing Wagner's music, for instance. Trouble is, I'm not the one writing the program, so I make my peace with it and play what I'm told to play. It's music that many, many people enjoy. It doesn't reflect what I think.

If you love the bag, wear it. It won't change your convictions. Judging from your magnificent thread title, it's not going to stop you from using your voice - nor will it stop anyone from applauding you for what you have to say.

Here's a thought. Keep the bag and then make a donation of equal value to a related cause/charity. I can't recall the details of the D&G issue, but I remember it had something to do with China. That's how I make peace with things like this.

Eat a burger. Wear the bag

seriously, I agree with the posters that said only buy it if it won’t bug you to love and wear it.

i love the dolce RTW that I bought mainly 20 plus years ago. I still have some of it. I don’t buy them currently, but I certainly wouldn’t bat an eyelash if other people do. They are extraordinarily talented. By the way, the Wertheimer brothers forgave chanel and supported her for the rest of her life.

If you decide you really don't love it when it arrives, think about making one yourself / getting someone to make one for you, if it's the look that you like. It's not a difficult design to recreate (either by creating from scratch, or making a patchworked denim 'cover' for an already existing bag). There is LOADS of inspo if you Google "denim tote bag" - other designers are also repurposing denim in a similar way.

For what it's worth though, I think you're going to ADORE it! You also said there will be "no resale value"... some of the totes do relatively okay on the preloved market - I think something unusual like denim may retain more proportional value than some of the more 'traditional' pieces... you never know! ❤️

Forgave her (even though she tried to have them deported and killed) and then didn't prosecute her when she bootlegged her own rival Chanel No 5. Another reason to buy today's Chanel IMO

Sohee Park, the rising 25-year-old London-based South Korean designer, recent Central Saint Martins graduate and Instagram fashion darling behind the label Miss Sohee has found fans in daring style stars such as Lalisa Manoban, Ariana Grande, Gemma Chan and Cardi B.
Apparently, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are Stans of her dramatic demi-couture designs too. In fact, the duo behind Dolce & Gabbana will be teaming up with Park to present her first Fashion Week runway show during the Fall/Winter 2022 season in Milan this coming February.

Sculptural gowns with long trains, caged crinolines and embellished flowers have come to define the Sohee Park aesthetic.
According to a statement from Dolce & Gabbana, the Italian designers’ support and guidance for Park boils down to how her artisanal craftsmanship and study of shapes and volume resonate with their own “aesthetic and creative approach”. Prior to starting her label last year while in lockdown, Park had interned at brands such as Marc Jacobs and Molly Goddard.
Park stated in a statement: “I’m truly excited to see my creative vision finally come to life. I am extremely grateful to Domenico and Stefano for their generous support and for this unique opportunity. Knowing that I can count on them and that they encourage my creativity is a real honour.”

PR stunt or sincerely supporting emerging (wonderful) Asian talent  . Whatever, I hope it's a lead that other established designers (from anywhere/everywhere) will follow.

I hope that it does mean they've cleaned up their double-act and appreciate the finest of different (but equal) cultures.

Very interesting, I have done things similar to that myself. The "China" issue was supposedly an Asian female model eating a cannoli with chopsticks. The model didn't seem to mind. She did the job and I'm sure was paid well for it. We dont want to get into what's going on in China and people NOT getting paid to work so...I didn't see anything wrong with that. It seems rather strange that some of their "anti" stuff was towards LGBT community which is ironic since D&G are/were an openly gay couple for 23 years. They made a comment about not supporting "synthetic children" meaning IVF and surrogate mothers so ELTON JOHN freaked out, understandably. But that's their religious beliefs, ironically. They created a sandal and named it the "Slave". I can definitely see an issue with that. Definitely a name in poor taste but I don't think it was intentionally named to insult black people. I just cant believe their staff didn't say like, hey, dudes, that's not going to go over too well. Maybe they're just dumb. It's just so complicated. All over a handbag!

Thanks for sharing. I honestly think they're just dumb, lol. I don't think their comments come from a malicious place. I honestly think they are idiots. And when they are called out, like Pluto and Goofy...they're like oh we didn't mean it that way and they kind of circle back:)
