What is this style called and what leather? I’ve had this forever, use it as my travel and carryon bag, since it’s huge. Leather is super durable and scratch resistance. View attachment 5753698View attachment 5753699View attachment 5753701View attachment 5753702
Oof, I've spent some quality time looking. There's mention of a drom duffel but of course the pic was lost in one of the site updates. I'm wondering if this is camel skin? The only bag I know of with the same type of lock closure is the Whistle but that's not it.

Hmmmmm. The drom is ringing a distant bell. You’re onto something. The push lock actually locks with a tiny key that hangs from the bag.

I remember when I bought it eons ago, it didn’t strike me as a rarity as I’d seen several bags in this line. Now years later I can’t remember the details and my search of the serial number comes up empty.

But it’s crazy durable. It’s one of my long term workhorse bags and it looks exactly the same today as it did when I first bought it. And I don’t baby it at all.

Thanks for shedding light, as usual.

I wish I could dial it in. If so many of the pics from back then weren’t lost…can you post a pic of the bag in it’s entirety?

In a “no $hit, sherlock“ moment, I researched my own ancient posts. I called this the Grenat Giant Bacon. It’s from 06. The Bacon is related to the Whistle. Don’t know if this is accurate, but this was the consensus when i originally bought this, and how the seller (a tpf member) described it.

edit: I beleive I ended up with Zacorey’s bag. See post #7

There you go! From what I've read the bacon and the whistle are the same style, but it looks like there are some differences.

I’m still confused. Apprently the paper card on the bacon bags literally said “Bacon”, which is odd because the paper cards on other bags don’t say “Twiggy” or “City” or whatever. There was also chatter about Bacon being made of pig skin, but the card said Agneau. Some said difference between Bacon and Whistle is that Bacon doesnt have the two strips of leather that circle the bag and connect up to the handles. From what I see, the handles are also different, and the rings attaching them to the bag are small and round, while the Whistle is attached with bigger oval rings. Also no exterior pocket on the Bacon, at least not on mine.

I’m surprised how little info there is on this bag.
