I used to like Marc Jacobs... what the hell happened to that brand? :thinkin:

I used to like monograms bags, until I realized how much negative attention I received.

I used to like shoulder bags until I developed shoulder and neck problems.

I used to like cycling my bags (buying/selling) until I found designs that really worked for me.

I used to like Eastpack backpacks...until I grew up.

I used to like certain brands more when I did not see them at every corner.

I used to like Nylon cross body bags for school until I noticed they are too casual for me most days

I used to like fabric bags, until I realized I love leather so much more (leather addict)

I used to think how a bag looks isn't "that" important, until stylish women in NYC proved this wrong...

I used to like Bal bags until I spilled my water bottle inside one and found out how much it cost to try to restore it.
I used to like heavy bags with thick leather until I got bursitis and neck pain.
I used to like Coach bags until their quality went down and their prices up.

I used to covet premium designer bags until I read Dana Thomas' book Deluxe: How luxury lost its luster and found out how design houses and corporations manipulate the masses into spending more for less and making me believe a hard to use bag is still worth buying because of its "quality"

I used to enjoy buying bags from stores until I discovered Ebay.

I used to like Balenciaga, until I heard (and witnessed) the fact that the gorgeous colors of their bags fade FAST and realized that the leather couldn't hold the color and the prices were outrageous for that "washed out" kind of look.

I used to like some Celine styles, until I realized I didn't want to wear a bag that had wings and looked like it might fly away.

I used to like Chanel, until I kept seeing Karl Lagerfeld's ugly, smug face everywhere and the company kept making ludicrous price increases several times each year.

I used to like Ferragamo, until I realized that the styles just weren't for me, and while they're beautifully made, I find them boring and too conservative.

I used to like Fendi, until those monster/bug/furry bag tags came out. (Wtf?!)

I used to like cheaper bags made of fabric or man-made leather because they're affordable (and at that time, I really don't care), until I became "educated" on bag materials. So I started to appreciate and buy genuine leather bags and even if they're pricier (but I know my limits), I know they will last me a lifetime. That's hard-earned money well spent!

Yes to both! That book was a real eye opener for me. My mom's vintage LV (1984) bag is much nicer than the bags they make today and cost her a good deal less, even adjusting for inflation. Now I know why. Thanks Bernard Arnault.

And so many bags depreciate so quickly that I find I can get really nice things on ebay for a fraction of the retail cost with the help of the fabulous authentication experts here.

I used to like crappy bags that I thought were cute, until they started falling apart within months until I found TPF & began to understand that if you spend a bit more money, you can get a well made bag that will last years, not months. And good leather smells and feels *so* much better than pleather.

I used to like Marc Jacobs, until I got Balenciaga.
I used to like Balenciaga, until I got Prada.
I used to like Prada, until I got Celine.
I used to like Celine, until I got Givenchy.
I used to like Givenchy, until I got Chanel.

Now Chanel obsessed. Really don't think I can ever do Hermes, so I'm happy to stick with Chanel. :)

Hey you all are right on target with everything, esp how much better bags were made 20 years ago, That Dooney is better made than most, that Celine wings have become boring, RM is falling apart, I am tired of MKors, coach jammed itself up with all the factory bags and too many siggies, it must redeem itself with awesome leather , and ebay, great place for bargains, if you are careful.
