Can someone please clarify what SLG, SDJ, and other popular acronyms on this forum are? (Sorry I'm new here!) PS I adore the Fendi, would not get an MK but maybe a Rebecca minkoff or similar contemporary designer under $500 to experiment with color

SLG - Small Leather Goods

SDJ - I have no idea either :D

SDJ = Sac du jour by Saint Laurent? Or YSL depending on new or a few seasons pre-loved!

To answer OP, it is not worth getting the "cheaper" alternative. It's a waste of money, and you will always wish you'd not wasted the money on something second-rate by your own definition.

I don't think you'll wear the bag.

Shoot for the ideal pink bag. If you are not ready to buy it, think about it and visualize wearing it until you are ready to buy it. Maybe you'll forget about it.

When you said "hot pink" I thought SDJ. I don't want a hot pink bag, but I would totally use a hot pink SDJ.

A bag in a bright color is going to get more attention, so in some ways it is more important that it be well made.

Can't agree more. Wait for a little bit longer and you may change your mind that not having this colour bag in your wardrobe. it happens on me all the time and that was how I dealt with my issue, after few months if you are still "craving" to try this colour out, go and get this colour in a premium designer bag you like (at least mostly premium designer classic handbags are worth to invest or collect). Bright colour really catches eyes especially you don't like this brand and so used to carry premium handbag, imagine when you take the hot pink MK bag out, the more attention it grabs the more you will be feeling uncomfortable.

I had the same dilemma. Wanted a hot pink/fuchsia mini bag to use for casual dinners out but didn't want to spend a fortune. I ended up with a Phillip Lim Pashli and used it all last summer. I'm sort of a bag snob who happens to live in "fashion hell". Not many people know or care what bag you wear! I enjoyed wearing my Pashli and it served my purpose. I just treated myself to a red mini MG calf bucket for Christmas. Hard to find, won't break the bank, crossbody and perfect for my needs.
Hopefully you'll find your perfect pink bag. I do love the Fendi!

On the other hand what if you drop a lot of $ on this bag and realize you don't love the color as much as you thought you would. Sometimes it's worth it to give the color a test run with a less expensive bag.

My MK and Dooney sit right along side my Chanel and Balenciaga. The MK was in yellow, and I liked the shade more than the shades that I saw in the premium design houses.

I guess that I'm more in the if-I-like-it-I-will-buy-it camp no matter who it comes from. My only prerequisite is that it's leather.

Ditto

If the copycat thing bothers you, then I don't think you'll be happy with the MK. The quality would likely also bother you given what you're used to. I think the suggestion to find something other than the Fendi that is less expensive is a good one, but I think you probably also want something that everyone doesn't have. There are a lot of very well made but less well known/less popular brands out there that would fit the bill. It could be fun hunting :).

Here's a suggestion, Ferragamo has a gorgeous bag called Amy, it comes in a beautiful pink. Their bags are made in Italy and it shows. It's around $1000.00 . You're better off to buy a quality bag rather than MK. I've seen this bag in person and you would not be disappointed. If you're having doubts about any bag, Don't buy it ! You'd regret it for sure!

I agree with others. If you aren't going to fold in the hot pink as a regular color in your wardrobe, it makes more sense to get the MK to "play" with the color. I had the MK sutton before and did not like how when you are hanging the bag from the long strap, the interior sort of gets pulled out- but thats a pet peeve of mine.

same thoughts. Unless hot pink is your staple or favorite color that you're sure you're gonna love it for a long time...

So I literally had the same dilemma as you! I have been dying for a hot pink bag for about a year and decided against any bag as I hardly wear pink. A few months ago I saw a Fendi BTW mini in Magenta on sale, I was sold. I said ok its not the exact color or bag I want (my heart was set on the fuschia Chanel mini) I can go for the price ($900). Right before I hit the submit order button I looked at the bag once more and couldnt do it. All I kept thinking was, I still want the mini! That made my decision, I'd rather spend more $ on the bag I really want and will find ways to wear than spend $ on a bag Im hoping will substitute. Just my two cents [emoji16]

At the end of the day buying bags, wearing them, owning them is about what you want. Just because a person likes fine dining doesnt meant hey can't enjoy a trip to Taco Bell. Buy what makes you happy and don't worry about it so much. Unless your in a financial position that you have a very large budget for handbags it doesn't make much sense to spend $3k+ on a Fendi bag when you could spend a few hundred on a MK bag, play around with the colour and then buy another later if you decide it's a colour you get a lot of mileage out of.
