good luck

Hi there...I think all of the handbag lovers on this site know how you feel...I am certain that each of us desire that one special handbag that we just have to have...But take from someone who has been there... once you get the bag the excitment will fade and you will see it as just a bag...So, please don't go into debt for a bag...If you desire a Hermes start off small...maybe purchase a cosmetic bag...which could be used as a small clutch....Good Luck..

It is very hard not to want to 'grab up' all the wonderful bags at Hermes....with that said, it's just not worth the worry of debt. Having a child in college is an expense in itself!!! There are some wonderful H bags you can get with that chunk of $$$$$!

Hey! I know how you feel. I do not own anything from Hermes yet and there is this compulsion to buy something now just to 'feel' part of the Hermes forum family.
*Cricket's chirping* Ha-ha! No one's replied to this, but you're right on, b2b3m4.
Mai B, if you want it this BAD I'd say go for it. You are still young and in this life full of sacrifices...Do it while you can enjoy it without feeling guilty for all the "all grown up reasons". I say so because I got the feeling you can pool it of financially and I wish you so .
I myself own rather nicely rounded collection of Hermes bags and I enjoy them while I enjoy them. This is what they are for. Mind you, I wasn't born with the silver spoon in my mouth. It takes an effort but it worth it, esp. while you are young
I know I'm enabling you but think about all the IT bags, apparel and whatever else you would be buying in the next couple of years rather then saving all that $$$ for your dream bag.
My 2 cents. Good luck to you!

Mia,
I sold several of my Chanel handbags. I had known for a long time that eventually I wanted to start purchasing Hermes exclusively. One day I looked at all the Chanel handbags I had, some never carried tags still attached and thought OK I'm ready for Hermes.
I still have 6 Chanel handbags I need to sale and I am contemplating selling my Chanel costume jewelry and my Chanel J12 Watch. Chanel is a great brand and has beautiful items, but I REALLY only want to own Hermes. I have "fallen in love" with the brand for its quality, history, excellence and overall appeal.
Maybe selling some of your designer items might be a way to establish your savings for your Birkin. I understand your feelings - once I made up my mind, I would not be deterred.

I think I am back saving up for my first bag, this month I was able to put away 275$, I still want a little money for myself, it isn't sensible for me to put away EVERYTHING in savings. I have thought about selling a few of my gucci bags, but IF I manage to sell them at a reasonable price for both parties, it will still only be a little help.

Thank Aminamina ;) I know it is 'bad' but I still can't help but think a little bit about the price increase when I will have saved up for it vs. the interests on a loan ..

You know, I have been thinking about this a fair amount as I really sympathize with you and know how you feel.
The feeling/thought that I personally associated (and still do) with owning my first H bag was 'arrived'. Not necessarily in a financial term but more as 'this is where I am in my life'. However, being able to afford an H bag (even though it was 2nd hand!) and pay for it in cash had also something to do with that 'arrived' feeling. I don't know if I would feel the same way if I had the instant gratification of an H bag but had to pay back the bank for the next 2 or 3 years for it. That is of course very personal and you may feel different, but you may want to consider it. Good luck with your decision!

I always save money and pay in cash for such luxury items... Never go in dept...
I'd rather wait a little longer but be safe. And of course there is the sense of accomplishment when buying something in cash!
Better safe than sorry.
