happy birthday :hugs:, actually my very first love with Hermes wasn’t a Birkin, they were a black CDC bracelet, jumping boots and Evelyn PM crossbody bag. I did, managed to get myself my first Birkin to celebrate my life reaching an age milestone on my birthday (please allow me to keep what age I was as a secret ).
Thank you! :hugs:I've kind of obssessing over Hermes lately Evelyne is growing on me. I might settle for one for now. I do have an appointment on Saturday at my local Hermes. I was going to cancel it cause at 50, I don't think I want to play the Hermes game. :crybaby:But happy you got your Birkin on your milestone!!

Let's be realistic. I don't agree with others that you SHOULD spend at least $10-20k in other items to get offered a bag. I spent about $2-3k in SLGs I wanted. Not to buy just for the sake of buying and quota spending. I was offered a Gold and Black B35 with Gold HW in 6 months after I met my SA for the first time and put in my request. I declined both and waited for the Gris Etain in Palladium HW that I wanted. I was offered the Etain B35 in the specs I wanted 7-10 days later after I declined the Gold and the Black B35. Use me as an example that the spend quota is nothing but baloney. Be loyal to your SA. Get to know him/her personally and magic will happen. FYI for those questioning where I shop, H on Madison Ave in NYC.
What does “be loyal to your SA” mean if not spending with them? I’m happy for your success but I would argue it is an exception not the norm. OP said she wanted a B30 or B35 (which I likely used my bias to read as “I actually want a 30 but will settle for a 35 if I have to”) and that she didn’t want to buy anything else. For a B30 these days, especially at her store, she would likely have to spend at least 1:1. Also, I do believe guys have an easier “journey” than gals. I certainly didn’t say she SHOULD spend $10-20k but be prepared that that’s what it may take, which I think is a reasonable and unfortunate expectation these days. (Just realized I am also bringing in info from her same FB post which had more detail than posted here.)

Exception or not I am sharing with the OP my journey and that worked for me. I would appreciate it if you do not turn this into a gender and a sexist journey by singling out a specific gender. I won't sit here and listen to your non-sense.

Actually, I thought I wanted a 30 but the more I think about it, the more I would prefer a 35. Like I said we'll see what happens. I'll try without having to spend on stuff I don't want.

Your realistic options are:
1) pick a home store in the states, go in and meet an SA, shop with only that SA at that store repeatedly until you create a pleasant relationship based on making purchases and appreciating the brand until one day (likely several months after meeting) you recieve an offer (likely after buying at least $10-20k in other items.)
2) buy resale at the inflated price.
3) try Paris but try to emotionally prepare yourself for somewhere around a 5% success rate.
4) forget about a Birkin.
Good luck!
Yep, these are pretty much the options. Pick your poison lol. I picked one and then realized I do NOT prefer Birkins afterall and I should’ve chosen #4. But it was learn by trial and error. I am a Kelly girl!!!

Best of luck to you whatever you decide!

pre Covid SIP, but an entertaining read

Have a cocktail or three and then buy one online from a reputable reseller in exactly the size, color and hardware you want, it’s VERY satisfying!!!
Who are the reputable resellers? I've only bought & sold some on Tradesy (aka ShopHers). I don't do eBay, though I've sold there years ago.

Why do you want a Birkin?
Do you usually gravitate towards Hand-held totes?
Do you love and use a YSL Sac dejour? Mulberry Bayswater? Chloe Edith? Celine Luggage?
I mention these particular bags because Like the Birkin they are short handled Tote style bags-if this is a style that works for you and your needs great.
Bear in mind Birkins are heavy-even with nothing in.
I ask WHY you want a Birkin because (and I'm not criticising you or anyone else here) due to social media Birkin's have become a 'must have' thing.
Its a big financial commitment whichever way you buy your Birkin (reseller, pre-owned or via Boutique).
So DO ask yourself IS it the bag for you?
Or are you being caught up in the hype?
If after asking yourself these questions and its still a yes,do your research as to colour, leather, hardware.
Is a 30 or 35 the right size for you and your needs.
Good luck
This!!! Do you already have handheld/crook of arm only totes with no strap like those mentioned by author? If yes, do you already use them a lot and love using them? Or does it bother you not having a strap and all the bags you use have a strap now?

If no, please strongly reconsider and don’t buy a Birkin!!!

Congrats - This is a Birkin 35, which is easier to obtain. Most of my friends do not want B35. They want B30 or smaller. 30’s are more sought after by women these days, which are much harder to obtain due to demand.

Obviously, handheld bags don't bother me. I own some. If it bothered me, I wouldn't have considered a Birkin. I didn't just "discover" the Birkin yesterday. I just didn't want one before.

There are entire threads devoted to this in the Hermes shopping subforum

Anns Fabulous Finds; Fashionphile; yoogis closet in the US pop up in numerous threads

search Japanese resellers for deals (factor in customs and state sales tax; there are threads on this too)
common names are BrandJFA and Let trade; though you have to read condition very carefully

if you are fortunate enough to get a Paris appt, there are threads on customs and VAT
other TPFers have had issues with European resellers like Collectors Sq, but if you are in Paris, near FSH, it’s my understanding that there are a few reputable resellers in the vicinity

there is also a thread on discuss Japanese resellers; threads on issues with Fashionphile and other resellers

if you find a fixer upper, and are unsure it’s worth it, there is @docride s Lazarus thread
I engage third party professional spa services; others here stick to H spa. H spa will not spa interiors; bags that are previously worked on; or lighten handles, so that will preclude deals if you limit Aftercare to H.
Personally, I will only look at deals that are structurally sound (handles fully attached; stitching intact; edges of sides in good condition; leather not too dry; and, corners reasonably good shape)
Heritage leather will be easier to refurbish than epsom, but epsom is lighter and can withstand rain.

i personallu would not recommned the Real Real; individuals on eBay; Instagram; or facebook
i don’t recommend Vestiaire, Poshmark, or Tradesy. this is not to say you cannot find legitimate deals. I simply prefer not to take the risk. many here like Rebag; I found the chat that kept popping up extremely annoying as was the email I received afterwards. i would avoid anyone requiring bank wire transfer or ff t4ansactions. I pay with verified buyer PayPal backed with Amex platinum.

and, I would always authenticate prior to purchase
many here use @bababebi

If a deal is too good to be true, it is too good to be true

re handheld bags. A 35 Birkin is extremely heavy even empty. even in my forties, I found it a bit much.
im currently 54, and I think a 30B is also quite heavy empty. Re your post #26 and others, most of your questions are actually answered in other threads. Since the questions reappear here, some of us who are trying to help are also stating obvious factors like weight. A 35 is also much deeper, and many of us find it easy to bang up. Also, I’m 5’2” and size 6-8 US, and a 35 looks like carry on luggage on me.

IMO the beginner intro (posted by @leechiyong is not outdated; just don’t get depressed if you read about the offers of others.

you should also read the San Francisco H thread
