I have this necklace from 1992...

It's a bit thick though. I'm thinking 3mm. Valuble I suppose and it does have some sentimental value. My Dad passed away in 08 and it's the only jewelry that he had ever bought me. I always felt guilty for not wearing it and not appreciating it as much as I should have.

I'll hang on to it and will try to wear it now and then. Who knows? I may start the trend again.

I'd use it as a chain for pendant if I were u

My father gave me a gold rope necklace from Birks as a graduation gift from High School. At 17 it never appealed to me at all and I've never worn it.

Does anyone wear these anymore? It's on the website now so I guess it's either a staple or it's back in stye. I'm going to start to wear it anyway but just curious about it's popularity.

So funny - I graduated in 1991 and in 1993 my boyfriend at the time bought me a gold cross with a necklace exactly like that! Must have been the big "in thing" back then!

I don't know if they're back... it is pretty though!

I have one just like that too! It was given to me by my Mom in 1995, who passed away of heart failure in '01. Just like you, I haven't worn it, but open the box to look at it now and then. It sits in that box with a ruby ring that was taken off her hand when she passed.
I'll take mine out and wear it, if you will. (?)

Rope chains are the strongest for heavy pendants, which is what i have for a heavy medallion.

BTW - I wear a tennis bracelet everyday.

Me too - my '70s gold brick with hallmarks on the front

This is so funny. I never think of any jewellery as out of fashion, I just think it's great I've got one of 'those' cos no one sells them anymore :p

Then you must wear it!

Let's all wear ours if we have them and make it fashionable again :party::party:

I also have one just like it - it's dated!
I never stand on ceremony.
I am thinking of taking mine to one of those places that sells gold - it's at top dollar right now and would probably fetch about $400 or $500. Then. I'll go back to Birks and buy something current!
