I finally did it, east west re-set of my moms marquise engagement ring from my father

Thank you ALL of you, making me feel so good about the decision I made! I appreciate all of your kind comments so so much! I'm so happy to hear from a mom that would be happy about this if her daughter did it... and the sentimental value in it.... and that it was good to do this and enjoy it rather than store the original and do nothing with it.... :) Thank you! This wasn't easy to decide but I just can't stop looking at it, can't wait to show my grandma and my mom's brothers when I see them all this weekend!

Oh, gosh, you did right by that ring! That reset is *gorgeous*! There really is nothing sadder than jewelry of a sentimental value that's sitting unworn in a safe deposit box. And you know we all have this stuff. It all needs to be taken out of the box, re-homed or re-set and worn. But it takes courage to finally pull it out and restyle it. Thanks for the inspiration! I know I'm starting to see a few old family pieces in a slightly different light. ;)

This is so special! I love the horizontal marquis a lot! I think it can be a difficult diamond to set North-South, but in the bezel setting it's so gorgeous! (Not to mention it's one hunk of a rock! woo!)

You must be so happy with it and what a good way to capture a special gift between your parents long before you knew them as they were growing up. I think the family heirloom reveals here are the best honestly! I love them :)

The marquise has never been my favorite cut because of the typical N/S setting of it (not that I would have run if someone tried to give me one) but seeing it E/W is this setting? It may now be my favorite cut!

It's gorgeous!

:) I got to go visit my family and they all loved what I did, that and all the kind compliments just keep making me feel better about what I did! I've been wearing it everyday, just love to look at it!

Very special idea! My mother had my grandmother's ring reset in a style she designed around her diamond after my grandmother passed away last year and she never takes it off just as my grandmother never took it off and it is very sentimental.
