Don't overlook vintage pieces on Ebay....there are some wonderful, extremely well made things priced far better than contemporary Chanel costume. Quality is better, too.

If you can find some Miriam Haskell, I'll bet you'll find what you are looking for. Vintage style (very Chanel like, some of her items), high quality, and not nearly the price of Chanel. Also, Majorica (if you are looking for faux pearls) are the best glass pearls there are, and very reasonable, vintage or newer.

Swanky......ITA.....Miriam Haskell pearls and costume jewelry are beautiful......I have a few pieces that I bought at Nordstrom. I think they are one of the only stores that I've seen carrying Haskell.........Good luck......Let me know if you want to see pictures of my Haskell pieces. If you don't want to buy anything....I'd be happy to loan you whatever you want :hugs:

no tips on pearls but, I was at Target the other day, and they had some pretty impressive Tiffany style CZ 'Diamonds by Yard' long necklaces, sterling silver and gold, for $50 each! They don't seem to be on their website though. I though they were pretty great for Target!

swanky, i have a great set from macy's and they are very pretty (freshwater). they were pretty inexpensive too and i plan to have them around for a long time.

Swanky, you sure you don't want to break down and buy the Chanel pearls? :) I totally get what you mean in terms of not wanting to pay astronomical prices for costume but on the flip side, the Chanel pearls seem to hold their value just as well (if not for the most part better!!) than real pearls. Crazy but true in my experience.

I am a fan of 'the real thing'. I rather buy one real piece of jewelry than 20 faux pieces. BUT I did buy 4 Chanel necklaces ranging from 1000 to 3000 euros and I did suffer from buyer's remorse after spending so much money. BUT these necklaces are always great to glam things up. I wear them at special occasions but also at work. It's hard to compare it with a classic pearl necklace. I am very happy with my Chanel pieces.
