go for opera length pearls...i have found good pearl deals at macys. especially on sale days.

I have to second this! I got a beautiful 100" rope of freshwater pearls, 8-9mm tagged at $500 for 80% off during one of their One Day Sales. Seeing as these "sales" happen every week it seems, check it out. This was at the fine jewelry counter, not fashion. For Fashion, Ralph Lauren makes some classic pieces too...

If you can find some Miriam Haskell, I'll bet you'll find what you are looking for. Vintage style (very Chanel like, some of her items), high quality, and not nearly the price of Chanel. Also, Majorica (if you are looking for faux pearls) are the best glass pearls there are, and very reasonable, vintage or newer.

Swanky buying costume? I had to click this thread and see for myself. ;)

I still like the Chanels with the little extras bits added, but for the price, you would have to wear it all the time, not just for one occasion. I'm interested in seeing what you get! I always thought Majorica was the best for fake pearls, but they are pricey too.

I need a very long necklace or group of necklaces for a special occasion. I wouldn't normally wear a lot of long necklaces so I had to "invest" in fine jewelry for it.
I'll be wearing a black dress - not formal, more of a cocktail dress and the top really need some flair.
I LOVE Chanel's opera length pearls, but I also hate to spend nearly $1,000 on costume :-s

Anyone know of quality costume?

check out some of the home shopping networks.. there are some

well priced and designer inspired "jewels":yahoo:have fun!!

LOL Jayne! I was wincing at I typed it :laugh:
Mumbling "I can't believe I'm asking for advice on this . . . "

I tried on some pretty Chanel pearls today, they were about $700 I think{?}
I just am not sure I can give that kind of $ for faux :-s

I bought a Chanel ring a few years ago and have still never worn it. . . I know myself.

^thanks hotshot, I'll check there too!

In that case, the cheaper the better for the pearls, since this will probably be a one time wearing for you. :yes:
