Alrighty, highly inspired by dragonettes earlier thread about making her own charms I just HAD to try this because I adoreeeeeeeee coach fobs but wish they were all charms!

So, I went to walmart to look for dogleash clips (I figured there HAD to be cheaper ones than the ones silver-coach has on ebay). Walmart only had ginormous ones or plastic ones but I got the things in the first pic (the bulge just screws down) but I think they look too much like "hardware" rather than something I might put on a bag... I might use them for my keys though! ~*~ Pic 1 ~*~

Next, I went to Michael's craft store... no dogleash clips that I could find! So then I tried Hobby Lobby which is just a typical craft store. I thought they would be in the jewelry making section but no such luck... but as I was wandering around the store I happened to walk down a doll area and they had dogleash clips in with the leather-type products to make things. They were only $1.99 for two! However, they only had silver! ~*~ Pic 2 ~*~

I will definitely have to check out Ace Hardware for some brass ones but a lot of my charms are silver anyways.

I also picked up some other random closure type things (clasps and lanyard hooks) to try and if they look weird then I will just use them for the jewelry I make or what not. ~*~ Pics 3&4 ~*~

Lastly, I attached a pic of my new skull "fob" as I put it together. You can see that adding a dogleash just adds a bit more length but makes it SO much easier to put on bags and change out in a snap! ~*~ Pic 5 ~*~

Thanks for the idea dragonette... I am TOTALLY sold on making all of my fobs into charms!!!!!! (Long post, sorry!)

Very cool - I like how you did that too and your snaps are a total bargain - I'm going to look in the hobby depts around here! So, how hard was it getting the thicker snap end onto the keyfob? I've been using the ones I got at Ace hardware which are like the ones Dragonette used and have the skinny keyring attached so it's easy to just put the leather part onto the new ring (does that make any sense at all??)?

It was super easy! I just used a key to prop open the threads of the keyring and slipped it right on! It's not that thick, thicker than the ones dragonette posted I'm sure but still not hard at all.

I went on the search because I knew I could find them cheaper and they are nice thick dogleash closures... my suggestion would be to just ask where they are at the store since they were nowhere near where I thought to look lol!

Thanks everyone... just wanted to add to the information database here on tpf lol!

Great suggestion!! I like the fact that it makes keyfobs easier to attach to my bags. I always undo the ball chain for the leather hang tag but I'm afraid I'm eventually going to wear it out and it will fall off and I'll lose my hangtag AND my key fob!! Thanks!!
