Omg. Have you guys ever been called materialistic by anyone before? I went out with my sister to eat dinner today and during the entire time, she was eyeing me because I was wearing my LV's and Hermes'; which I probably regret doing. Then she called me materialistic as if she has a right in where I spend my money! She doesn't have many designer brands but mainly because she doesn't work. I can say, without doubt, I work my *** off and work really hard. I juggle between school, work, and more school, and have minimal sleep. Unlike her, I don't go out with friends at all during the school semester because I have so much on my plate, which I am still able to manage.

Nevertheless, I was so furious and upset about her comment, it made me re-evaluate and think about what I'm doing. Am I justifying what I am buying, or am I really materialistic? What do you guys think? Have you ever been called materialistic? Ever questioned yourself if you over-spend?

It's really none of her bees wax what you do with our money. Ignore it and don't let her get to you. While I have never been called materialistic I do think about all the good that could be done with the money I spend on luxury goods. That's why I am trying to really limit my spending. As long as you are happy with your purchases, however and can afford them then there is no reason for your sister to nag.

Designer handbags are almost every woman desire. Maybe she's just jealous you have a fabulous designer handbags so she called you materialistic. sometimes i am thinking that i am over-spend but i work hard and earn money, and if i could afford it, why not? Its a reward for myself :)

You work hard for your money, and whatever you choose to spend it on with is no one else's business. If it makes you happy, and you can afford it, just buy what you like. Othe people are just jealous :)

You and your sister simply have different priorities and I doubt her comments are due to jealousy. My sister (who's husband has enough money to buy the whole LV boutique) used to lecture me about buying expensive bags because she felt I didn't make enough money to justify owning them. Once of our conversations was so heated that when the next bag arrived to my house, I was so ashamed and couldn't bring myself to look at it for weeks. What made her come around is when she offered to let me use her ebay account (her vintage business) to sell my bags. When she saw that most of them not only held their value but also profited and how the feedback was helping the reputation of her business, she did an about face, apologized, and absorbs all my fees! She has also willingly accepted several bags from my collection! :D Last month she came to visit and we stopped into Louis Vuitton; she bought herself a DE NF GM.

For us, it was different priorities with our disposable income. Now she understands that purses are my thing - like guitars and vintage jewelry are her thing - and I have no sentimental attachments to my bags (will sell one in the event of a personal emergency), we can shop together in peace!

Well, we are living in a material world. So I'm willing to admit that I'm materialistic. What I can't accept is when someone call me shallow. Who is more shallow; the person who carries designers bags or the person who judge another by what she is wearing? At least I'm not superficial or faky.

This is just the beginning of many ignorant comments by people. I have learned to just ignore it and not let anyone affect my spending habits. Everyone has different financial situations. For instance I have a few friends who LOVE to judge me for always buying designer things but their always going to expensive dinners over 100+ and buying alcohol at clubs. If they just save all that money they too could afford anything I own. People love to judge before they analyze their own spending habits. Just because they don't have alot of "materialistic" items doesn't mean their not blowing money on randomness .. wish they would think twice before saying something!
