Had to share this screenshot of an article written earlier this year. The headline is so true! It even shows a photo of MVP clinic where I had my eyes done, full face fat graft and vermillion lip lift. Here is a collage comparing me at age 47 in 2013 to me at age 57 in 2023. I have obscured my daughter’s face but she was 16 in the top pic and 26 in the bottom. I truly did come back looking like a whole new person like a scene from the Stepford wives sci fi film.

S Korea truly is an addictive place for plastic surgery. Too many trips and you could get the Korean nickname plastic surgery monster or gangnam face!View attachment 5903525
You look amazing for your age!

Thanks! I will keep this in mind for my top up. Doc advised to walk as much as possible for faster deswelling, that's why I spent most of my time awake to walk around Seoul lol. Never thought I would kill the precious fat, not to mention my surgeon was quite conservative with fat injected to my face.

I really miss my face 2 weeks ago!!! But on the bright side, I kinda had a sneak peek of how much better my face would look when it's fuller.

Can we have as many fat graft sessions as we want in our lifetime?
For upper lid fat graft, do you know if the fat tends to retain better there? Or does it also suffer from absorption as on face?
Is fat from inner thighs or from belly better for retention rate?

That's a lot of questions, but thank you
Hi @huongkhanmoon, yes you have had a sneak preview of how much better your face can look when fuller. Here are 2 facial fat graft pics of mine where I felt overjoyed and then could not understand when the fat went down. I got into the cycle of flying back to Korea for top up after top up to regain this face until I realised why I was losing fat and learned how to retain it. At least you have learned now and not after 5 facial fat grafts like I did.

As for which fat is better, only you know the answer to that. When you lose weight where is your stubborn resistant fat? Do you still have thunder thighs or do you still have a Michelin tyre tummy? For me, my resistant fat is in my thighs which was used for my last facial fat graft 4 years ago and my breast FT 3 years ago. I remember when I had my last facial fat graft in January 2020 there was snow everywhere. After my surgery I stayed warm in the hotel room and only stepped out to have brunch and an early dinner. Unknowingly this helped with fat graft retention so it is possible to get the procedure done in the winter months but in future limit going outside once you have your top up unless it is hot outside. If you get the top up in the hot months, the sun also helps break down bilirubin so your bruises vanish faster!

That's a lot of useful information for not only me but also all the girls here who wish to have fuller, more youthful face! Thanks so much for your time to write such a detailed answer. And you shine + look absolutely fabulous in those photos :heart::heart:

I thought I would start a new thread as I seem to have hijacked smitten kitten's thread on MVP to share my journey. I summarised my plastic surgery journey on www.drunacoales.blogspot.co.uk. Here is a short summary of my tips.

1. As you age, the nose tip droops. Bear this in mind when you get your primary rhinoplasty as it may not be your last. My tip drooped after 16 years and needed revision. In SK they prefer ultra soft silicone for the nose as it is easier to fit. Take care as some people react to foreign material more than others and you may need to remove or exchange on average every 10 years as with most body artificial implants. Ear or rib cartilage is autologous and less likely to cause a reaction. Get several quotes on kakao from various clinics. One clinic JW may start at 13 million for rib rhino revision but then drops to 11 million if they know you are active on social media but then may drop even further to 8 million after a consultation with the plastic surgeon and may even drop to 7.4 if you look like you are going elsewhere as shared by another KK friend. This is something foreigners are not used to...negotiating. Or clinics like GNG or MVP will start with a fair price like 4.5 million at GNG for rhino or 3 million special at MVP. MVP is noted for trying to give foreigners as close to local prices as they can. There are 2 types of noses...long nose and Barbie nose. Make sure you bring an A4 of a favourite actress or model or use the facetouchup app to see which suits your face. Bear in mind the nose and ears continue to grow with aging!

2. In your 40s, you start to lose fat from your face which then makes your face look bony. The most resistant fat is in your cheeks which then makes your face look unbalanced, ie chipmunk cheeks on a bony skeleton face. The answer is not cheek liposuction or buccal fat removal but full face fat graft to rejuvenate and replace all the facial fat lost with ageing. Be patient as fat grafting may need 3 attempts to stay and be prepared to gain a few lbs to help the fat graft thrive.

3. Eyelid sulcus hollows with ageing. Again fat grafting to the lids rejuvenates. You can combine this with an incision des or blepharoplasty. Again bear in mind that skin sags so actually a bigger crease buys you more time before it sags. Your first des is never your last when battling gravity.

4. Philtrum sags with ageing. You may have seen smiles with no upper teeth show. This is because the philtrum has sagged from 11 mms to 20 mms and basically covers your upper teeth show even at rest. Try a bullhorn lip lift and do not ask the plastic surgeon to cut into the nasal sill or it may distort the nostrils. The only downside is a scar but if you wear makeup, you can hide as it takes a year for the scar to be invisible.

5. SMAS facelift. I have seen this in girls as young as 30. As it is costly and with ageing all skin sags, I would suggest trying to put this off as long as possible by using other anti ageing procedures. Bear in mind any bone surgery may accelerate skin sagging and you may end up requiring an earlier SMAS facelift.

Hope this helps ladies especially from 40+. I turn 51 shortly and my next milestone hurdle will be conquering ageing at 60!
You are so beautiful. You look amazing.

Hi @snpry, I can recommend fat graft for the forehead and temples but would suggest you get a lower facelift for flat saggy cheeks especially as you had vline surgery. The facelift will lift and raise your cheeks to a higher position which will make them look fuller. The facelift will also remove excess skin which should then smooth out the deep nasolabial folds. My concern is once you put fat graft into your cheeks and nasolabials they may reabsorb at different rates so you are left with chipmunk cheeks and worsening of the nasolabial fold. The fat in cheeks tends to hypertrophy and the heavy fat weight then may drag the cheeks down. It really is a high risk procedure. This may prompt you to get more fat graft to the lower face in hopes of making the fat graft even in the face and perpetuate the cycle which happened to me until I had a lower facelift.

In hindsight, I did not need any facial fat graft but just a lower facelift or not even that at all had I not started on my fat graft journey. I have recently joined a facial fat graft disaster facebook group and seen and read some shocking accounts of fat graft lumps in the face which required surgical removal during a facelift. That said most of the mishaps seem to be in Western countries and Korea has more experience so may be less likely to get lumps.

I would exercise extreme caution before you embark on facial fat grafting. Tummy or thigh fat is different from facial fat so when it is grafted into the face it can swell up when you eat salty or fatty foods and if you gain a few lbs, the face may balloon. Remember how I cried and cried and cried after I ruined my face with full face fat graft back in July 2016. What I learned in Korea was they rarely say no to a foreign tourist so even when you don’t need fat graft, they may offer it. There were times when I looked in the mirror at DA hospital thinking do I really need full face fat graft top up? But the doctor never said no.
Thank you so much!!! 🤗

Why Korea is THE capital of the world in plastic surgery. Here I am at 50 before my 3rd fat graft in Seoul as full face fat transfers 1 and 2 at DA in 2016 had all reabsorbed (just before my upper lid fat transfer top up with Dr Seo at MVP), then the right sided photo taken 12 days after I had full face fat graft at DA hospital with Dr Kim in May 2017. I wish I had known back then how to retain fat graft like I do now. I had my 5th and final facial fat graft with Dr Seo in Jan 2020 when I finally figured out how to look after fat graft so it takes permanently. Looking at the eyebrows reminds me how fresh the eyebrow tattoo looked in 2017. I have booked Tracie Giles again for later this week to refresh my eyebrow tattoo.

Hi @Otto8 I am not eating anything different. I know Bray has his patients on a specific pre facelift diet, but I don’t think food will affect surgery. I have been busy making collages of my 6 months face vs day 0 and a front view of month 1 vs month 6 (last photo eyes hidden as I look awful!). The face has clearly fallen so I definitely do need this revision in 18 days time. The good news is the clinic now includes a lipoelastic head compression garment! I bought a new ebay china one too which arrived yesterday so I am all sorted. Will take steroids in the first week, take a sleeping pill and paracetamol before the surgery and will bring stronger painkillers for the night in the hotel.

My expectation is the revision should last at least 4 months to cover me for my daughter’s wedding and family wedding photos and then in future I need to research surgeons who do smasectomy as in my opinion, longevity may be assured with the smas muscle layer cut, trimmed and resewn together. I looked at the IG video of Dr Park’s lady over a year out and she has heaviness in the cheeks with nasolabials. I am still in the hunt for a surgeon who does smasectomy! lol

It has been a while since you posted this, have you found a good surgeon for smas?

Hi @SDUSATravel,

Yes I found a good surgeon for smas. I had my free revision Jan 2022 and it lasted! It is almost 2 years now. I realised I needed to take a week of postop steroids to stop any facial swelling and stretch. I can recommend my facelift surgeon Dr Nick Rhodes of Coppergate Clinic.

I had my eyebrows tattooed yesterday and unfortunately it is too dark and too thick. I think the technician was applying Western standard brows on my Asian face. I am trying everything to lighten the pigment and make it less thick, washing with hot water and scrubbing with salt which is supposed to draw the pigment out. This is me after my diy attempts. It was darker yesterday. On the plus side this photo shows how amazing Dr Seo did my eyes and upper lid fat graft. The eyelid crease is in at the inner corner and parallel, ie out at the ends. I think this is the most flattering for Asian eyes. Can’t believe my eyes are over 7.5 years old! Never has an upper bleph lasted this long when I did it in the UK.

9D04D3A3-D523-4913-BD51-D13994DCCE12.jpeg I shall buy concealer as a last resort to cover the brows and make them look thinner. These brows look like they belong to Brook Shields!

I had asked Dr Seo to give me Han Ye Seul’s eyes. Here are her eyes without eye makeup. She has the eyelid crease go in in the inside of her eye and go out or parallel at the outer edge. Dr Seo delivered over 7.5 years ago!

Hello, I read that you’re going to SK next month. Do you select your surgeon and PS procedures before you arrive, or do you schedule consult and then make a decision?

Hi @SDUSATravel, I am helping a friend next month. She wants what I had done so I helped her contact the English translator on kakao for Dr Seo at Machimpyo and he saw her pictures and both a consult and next day morning slot surgery have been booked with a 10% deposit. She paid for my plane ticket so off I will go on my 8th trip back to Korea. And if anyone is out there getting surgery between Jan 23 and 29 and feels lonely then message me and we can meet up at a public place for a meal or at a clinic as I know how lonely it is getting surgery solo in Korea. I hope to drop by MVP and say Hi to Ellen, the manager, who was super helpful every time I had surgery at MVP. I loved their maxim Korean coffee and sweets in the waiting room. I bought some maxims from starry asian market in the UK so am drinking this as my morning cup of coffee to remind me of Korea in anticipation of my upcoming trip.

I restarted zoom korean classes to brush up on my Korean for next month and am chuffed I survived the first intermediate conversation class! Although the Korean teacher who is a middle school boys English teacher and the other girls in the class did not believe me when I said I was Korean! lol. And one American student asked me what I was doing in London as I have an American accent??? I think I have a British accent as I was born and raised here but I did spend 15 years living in the States. I am now so confused as to my identity.

If you are not sure which surgeon, then you can book lots of consults on kakao with different clinics and then decide after you have been to the clinic consults. I did this for Jan 2020 and ended up consulting at View, Girin, MVP and Namu enquiring about whether I needed a facelift or bone contouring. That’s when I discovered they all suggested facelifts while some also suggested zygoma reduction and or v line but others said I did not need bone contouring. But I had not done enough research into facelifts at the time to determine which surgeon was best and the prices offered ranged from 9-12 million won for a facelift, so I had another fat graft at the time with MVP. It is much harder to make a decision in Korea without doing the research ahead of time. Multiple consults allows you to figure out what you really need, ie what the majority suggest vs what may be upselling, what only a couple suggest. Doing consults first also allows you to better negotiate on prices. You may often be asked what the other clinics quoted you and can then barter for their best prices as you appear to be walking out.

If you want a facelift in Korea it is vital you are able to communicate you want a smas lift and not a deep plane, how you want pds absorbable sutures and not permanent sutures and how you want intraop or postop steroids. My concern is that translators may not be able to translate this. The surgeons who get into the top korean medical schools will be fluent in English as English is tested as one of the requirements to get into the top schools. This may make it easier if your Korean surgeon speaks fluent English.

This is so helpful. So I schedule a consult and put deposit down for procedures for each clinic? deposits refundable, I hope. I also want to do an upper and lower bleph and sent enquirers to Dr Seo. Just not sure if I can do FL with someone else and bleph with him - still waiting to hear back from him. Meanwhile, any suggestions for surgeons who are good with FL+ bleph? I’ve looked into v.lif and they recommend so many more procedures than others. I’m afraid if I opted for what were repeatedly recommended by most others, I won’t get results with Vlif, and they say it is because I didn’t follow their suggestions.

I WAS prioritizing deep plane, but the term confuses me. If they retain ligaments is that deep plane? Or does is it refer to which layers are cut and vertically lifted? By cutting ligaments, one place said helps restore restore cheeks and fix nasolabial folds. But there are also smas procedures that cut ligaments. This is like a mattress manufacturer giving the same mattress different names at different retailers, so we can’t comparison shop, or get a price match. 😅

Hi @SDUSATravel,

It is not a good idea to get everything done in one place as you want the best surgeon for each procedure. Dr Seo is the best for eyes in my opinion. For a facelift, look at ASPS clinic which specialises in facelifts. I had a smas facelift in the UK which removed my nasolabial folds. The ladies who had the more expensive deep plane still have nasolabial folds as their retaining ligaments are cut for access to the deep plane and some ended up with more profound nasolabial folds. Smas lift does NOT cut the facial retaining ligaments as these ligaments are necessary to hold up the face.
