I love the paint work! Been thinking about getting a bag painted too, may I ask how much they charged for doing so?When I first got on eBay back in 2001, I bought a Cartochiere. I had no idea about date codes and such. I wore the bag for a bit and put it away. In 2021, I decided to give it a new life thru New Vintage Handbags And have it adorned with a design. Turns out, this bag is pre-date code era, in other words, at least prior to 1982. Here is a photo of the work they did. They were suggesting a replacement strap in this photo and that is why there are 3 extra (non LV, obviously) straps.
Generally, yes.I’m new to LV, but do you think the older bags hold up better than the newer ones ?
I just purchased this same bag on Fashionphile last week. It in excellent condition and is from 2005. Whomever owned it took very great care. It came with what appears to be the original dustbag? The fabric reminds me of a linen mixed fabric. Is yours like this as well? I added a vachetta strap and decked her out some. Lol. I love the unique shape! The bag that started it all…Popincourt from 2007! I can’t remember the last time I used it but it’s still in excellent condition and always bring a smile to my face whenever I look at it. View attachment 5395969
I believe the older bags have the best longevity IF they were taken care of. I've come across older bags, up to 20 years old that look pretty awesome, and also came across older bags that are still holding on, but had a beating. Lol. What I like with the older bags is the thicker canvas, heavier weight of vachetta and the brass hardware. If the gold tone starts to tarnish on the older bags, just use brasso. The newer bags have gold tone plating so the gold just wears off over time and a silver tone metal starts to show thru. With that said, newer made bags can still look beautiful in the coming years if you take care of your bags, so don't be afraid to purchase a new bag from the boutique or a "newer" or older bag from an authorized reseller. LV still using top notch materials and the gold plating is not your standard cheap gold tone plating, it's just not AS top notch as "back in the day". Also quality control is not the same either so inspect your new bag inside the boutique before purchasing. Just make sure to start off with an excellent or very good conditioned bag and you'll be ok as long as you properly stuff and store your bags when not in use. I purchase new and preloved. I do put a light coating of leather conditioner on my new and preloved LV coated canvas and on my vachetta along with Apple Garde on the vachetta ONLY (not on canvas) to prevent water marks and allow easy wiping of light soil with a water based baby wipe. My new canvas stays looking fresh and my older preloved pieces are locked into time to when I first obtained them. I use Kate Spade Leather Conditioner on my vachetta, canvas and Chanel lambskin and goatskin. There are other conditioners as well like Cadillac. Just stay away from anything that has silicone or any type of "cone" in the ingredients. Silicone will dry out items as it coats it with a coating that doesn't allow leather to breath. Also keeping silica packets in your bags will help keep moisture from getting trapped in your bags. When you purchase your bag, please share your purchase with us.I’m new to LV, but do you think the older bags hold up better than the newer ones ?
Such a good idea to add a strap to it! Mine came with a dust bag similar, if not the same, as what they use now.I just purchased this same bag on Fashionphile last week.
