How much money do you have before buying a $2000 bag?

If you're still a college student, may I ask how you're paying for school? If your parents are wealthy and paying the tuition, that's great; are they also giving you an allowance? Do you work? I honestly believe you should have a nice cushion of money saved up before you splurge -- your first few jobs after school may be the kind where they take advantage of your youth and burn through workers, also you won't have loads of job security at that age. Just starting out after school is tough -- you need things like a bed and a coffee maker, lol! Makes little sense to me to have a $2,000 bag and come home to a mattress on the floor!

I'm actually a grad student. So the common thing as grad students is that you work as TA or RA and your supervisor or school will pay you. With the money, no problem paying tuition and living expenses. But if want to enjoy a luxurious life, supports from parents are definitely needed. I'm not living a luxurious life :)

I once worked as an intern. CS interns receive 5k monthly on average. Obviously Google gives much more (8k-10k monthly) but only very few students have the chance to intern in Google. So sad I didn't intern in Google :(

Also, there are very easy ways to save money - I know as a student it is not easy, but making smart choices going out matters. For example, the mark up on any sort of beverage at a restaurant (in the US) is a complete joke. $3 for a coke, $6 for a beer, $10 for a glass of wine, sometimes more... I never order soft drinks, tea, coffee, or alcohol at all. They are much cheaper to make at home or purchase at a grocer. While I lived in NY we all pre-drinked before heading out. Make a drink before dinner. That sort of stuff.

I couldn't agree more. Small amounts will be ignored sometimes, and lots of "small amounts" may add up to a LV wallet.

Thank you guys! I actually have enough cash, I even have cash for a Birkin -- I'm proud of this. I really like the bag, but I never spend that much money on simply a bag. Thus this is a big decision to me.

And another concern is that people always tell themselves: enough if I could buy this bag. However I think people will never reach this "enough" status. If I buy my dreaming alma bb, I may have another goal such as Miss Dior few months later. This is unacceptable... I'm not rich enough to buy a luxury bag each term.

Sounds like you're already well aware of the implications an expensive purchase may entail. Just be aware of the slippery slope that's very common among here; one thing can easily lead to another...I applaud those who come on here just for advice on their regular purchase, and keep themselves in control. Have to say lots of money are easily spent though, even if you manage rein it in to some degree. Since school's going to be over soon as a master's student (which I assume you are), then maybe wait until you get that first job before buying the bag as a celebration? Good luck making an informed decision!

Yes, the slippery slope is all too common! I even fall prey to that. Once you take the plunge the water isn't so cold anymore...

Thanks :) You're damn right! 2k is too much for a regular purchase, however acceptable as a prize! I never think this way!

Yes! I want to save for a house too! I want a condo much more than a bag.

It's easy to drop $2K on a home upgrade project. I am upgrading a patio door for more than that.

Little projects other than paint will run at least $500 and bigger projects will start at the cost of a Birkin.

Then there is furniture....

If you are interested in decorating your dream condo, start looking at pics on houzz.com and hgtv and see how you feel about spending the money on a bag. (I fluctuate back and forth between home and fashion.)
